how can the hype sustain itself until May 09???

Do you think that the interest in this movie will continue until May 09?
I was not too concerned with the Christmas release date, but I wonder if May 09 might be a bit too long.

Cosmic thoughts gentlemen?

Yes... the marketing department and Abrams will doubtless have taken this into consideration.

Well, I think that there has been a bit of a lull since the release date was moved back. And I think that Abrams is probably going to have to do something soon in order to keep this on the radar. Seems to me as if throwing out a few crumbs every few months would be the way to go - I'm not talking spoilers, obviously...but crumbs of info that the fanboys can obsess over so that the buzz will stay alive.

As it stands now, we've not had much, even in the way of crumbs, in a few months. And certainly the interest around here has dropped because of it.

Hopefully a few more crumbs will get leaked soon, because even the most obsessive fanboi is tired of talking about whether or not Shatner is gonna be in the movie.

It won't even appear on the general public's radar until a few months before it releases. So they won't have time to burn out like we keep doing here.

And since the general public has the burden to make this movie a success, that's the best way for the future to unfold.

I'm not feeling much of a "hype" to be honest, but I don't doubt Abrams can deal with the PR-side of the movie very well - and now that we've seen the cute mini-skirts, I'm sure the movie will be great too. ;)

The hype so far is mostly homegrown. They've released - what? A teaser and a vague website? They haven't begun the hype, really. It was just us getting all excited about a few leaked photos, someone seeing costumes, someone else seeing toy prototypes, etc. The media machine has quite some time before it tries to go all Batman 89 on us.

edit: And I hate you Temis for posting the same thing more concisely two minutes earlier.

I think the hype will be a bit subdued what with the longer wait now, but we'll have spikes. The release of spyshots from what appears to be SFA in this topic today seems to be a good example of such a spike. We'll get pictures and sound bites on ocassion and we'll be placated. I'm not complaining.

I was sooo looking forward to Christmas but I think the hype can be sustained as long as we don't get too many spoilers.

The first official publicity shots of the main cast will cause many InterWeb gabblings of positive and negative varieties, when released.

I even suspect some fans may literally explode with delight or indeed rage when the time comes.

So, you know, business as usual.

:D

As a few people have seemed to said the 'hype' has not started yet, wait untill the real promo stuff starts to get the big audiences thats when they will want 'hype'.

If it was general now it would die down pretty quick and long before next May, they are trusting that Trek fans may be interested anyway and the man or woman on the street are the ones they need to interest.

They don't need the hype right now- only us BBS geeks care right now. The general public won't need to be hit with marketing until about 3 months before the movie- if that.
