How best to read The Walking Dead?

So after enjoying the TV show I got the big Walking Dead Compendium for Christmas. This beast features issues 1-48, and I've just finished reading it. Have to say I had a blast with it, and boy, that last issue was cheery, huh? :D

Anyway, I want to keep going but I'd rather not wait for the Compendium vol.2
So going basically I know that there's the basic TPBs of 6 issues, or there's the deluxe hardcovers of 12 issues

I know if I were starting with the TPBs I'd go from Vol. 9, or Book 5 with the hardcovers.
I just wondered what any fans' opinions were? What do you actually get with the hardcovers aside from a hard cover? Are there any extras inside that are really worth it?

Many thanks ahead :techman:

This might be the most simplified answer you will get but I started reading from Volume 1 to the most recent TPB the library had. I didn't know there was any other specific reading formula lol.

The TPBs are the quickest way to get all caught up. The last trade, Volume 13 containing issues 73-78, hit the shelves the same day as issue 79.

I was just interested in the hardcover collections, anyone got one? Just wondered if they have any extra stuff in them or the like, worth forking out the little extra money for? (As the info on shopping websites is always pretty poor, and I'm weary of reading customer reviews in case of spoilers)

The hardcover collections feature a gallery at the end of all of the covers for the various issues, often including variant covers, and often feature character & cover design sketches as well. The hardcovers in general are very good quality and, for the most part, are how I've been reading the series (with occasional single issues borrowed from a friend to keep more up-to-date).

I have all six issue's walking dead hardback's it is a great read . I just wished the show would follow a little more closly to the series. anyone read world war z? and we have more zombieland coming . all thing's undead rule .:drool::drool:

I would start with page one, then work my way to the right until I get to the end.

I've just been reading the trades so I don't know if there's any extra content in the hardcovers. Something tells me that they don't, however, you are getting a whole lot more story in those hardcovers as opposed to the standard five or so issues for each trade.

well all the stuff with the scientist did'nt happen and rick and his partner shane we know what happen's to shane.
