How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Borg?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Whoopie said that Picard was just something the Borg could take and use up, that he wasn't at a level where he could be dealt with on terms by the Borg, but maybe someday his people would be?

As much as people say the Borg were defanged by having Voyager being a comparable Warship against huge numbers of Borg and many of their excellently armed vessels... I think it's possible that Janeway was the manifest destiny of Guinan's fist chilling description of the Borg. Because not only did Kathy fight the Borg to a standstill encounter after encounter n a level playing field, but she talked to them and she bargained with these monsters fearlessly and allied with them against a mutual foe. There's no point denying that this might have been the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Now while the Federation would never (Cou-Klingons!, Son'a! Dominion! Romulans! -oigh!) never form an alliance mark out a neutral zone or even write up a mutual nonaggression pact with a species who take slaves and are hell bent on capturing the universe... You'd have to think that Voyager held the upper hand well enough once or twice or potentially, that there could have been "peace in their time" without some sort of genocidal military victory?

Is it so hard to make friends with people that just thought of you as meat?

Re: How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Bo

Voyager was just one single ship, insignificant when compared to a Cube, even if they did help out the collective on one occasion.

Voyager was like the Borg's Navi.

Re: How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Bo

Voyager was a single ship which was unstoppable. Janeway was a single Captain who was morally superior to every single person and especially every Alien she met(Well they knocked that chip off her shoulder for 5 minutes in VOY Sacred Ground.) and our beautiful Captain Kathy didn't understand such simple and cowardly terms such as "In over her head" or "bitten off more than she can chew" because she was a righteous zealot for the cult of her own personality...

She pwned the Borg at every turn and hunted them like they were food!

One of her shuttles, a tiny fracking little shuttle like the Delta Flier, on it's own fearlessly cut a swath of destruction across UNimatrix O... Well, some space station with in which the Queen of the Borg felt at home enough to put her feet up in, so detrimentally and destructively well acting out a humiliating moral pantsing that the Borg will be red faced with shame for the next 200 years!

Janeway wasn't a "Captain" she was the highest legal representative of the United federation of Planets 50 thousand light years in any direction with a liquid and autonomous mandate to do good and benefit the Federation... If she'd bothered to promote herself to Admiral, or accept a dual civilian position of Ambassador, or councilor or President then even Ransom would have been put in his place toot sweet without the tap dancing... This girl was totally the top of the foodchain and woe be kind any Dalek wanna be droid race that doesn't beg to share a universe with this magnificent monstrosity on her terms before she smites them...

Or it could ave gone down like it did in VOY Muse.

Re: How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Bo

I'd think it irrelevant who it was that tried to "make peace" with the Borg. After all, the Borg aren't at war.

They're just hell-bent on conquering the galaxy, as you put it. But that doesn't involve any sort of war - it's just a matter of assimilation, and the Collective considers that charity work. Try and unconvert somebody from doing charity work!

Do you recall near the opening sequences of Dogma where Matt Damon uses Alice in Wonderland to convince a nun to become a lesbian? Could even an Angel get away with that in real life?

Re: How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Bo

What are you drinking this week, Guy? And is it available in Europe?

(At a reasonable price, and in large quantities?)

I'm drinking life. :)

And... Going through some old VHS Tapes before they finally rot to death.

Re: How believably could Janeway have made peace with the Bo

Janeway could have made peace with the Borg because Voyager had plot armour.

Otherwise, the Borg would have assimilated them in a split second.
