That would make Baby Jesus cry.

Never mind Baby Jesus. I’m the one crying. :wah:

(Though if the choice is BIG SCREEN but TV speakers or tiny screen and proper audio, the latter wins every time)

Who here is watching on a CRT?

Until Christmas, the living room TV was a 200lbs CRT (one of the best of its day). The new 4K TV in its place is better in almost every way but I’ve yet to see a TV (plasma, LCD, OLED) that has better blacks. The top of the line displays are just about there today, but nothing in the budget I want to spend.

Of course, I’m still happy with the upgrade. Sadly the PVR programmed for Trek is in another room.

The One S is the only platform where I had actual issues with All Access, though they were minor.

It's weird, because I only had very minor and rare issues during the early days of DSC S1. It's been flawless since then (knocking on wood as I type this of course).

I've only got a 20" screen at the moment, but since its at my desktop, its only 2 feet from my eyes, so looks plenty big enough from where I'm sitting.

Sadly, my 22” TV is five feet away. It’s a temporary first world problem, though. I don’t give it much thought (if I had to use the TV speakers though, lives might be lost. )

Watching Picard via the Apple TV is the ONLY way to enjoy it in Dolby Vision HDR.

Can anyone confirm this? I am feeling cheated if true if CBS itself does not offer this but Apple TV does.

I imagine if CBS isn't offering it in that manner, then whatever Apple TV is doing is some kind of filter added to the image. CBS hasn't offered any of their shows in 4K HDR anywhere that I know of.

That’s actually a default setting in the 4K Apple TV and it’s not an improvement on non-native HDR material (I’ve altered the settings to fix this issue). It’s very much like the “torch” mode on TVs in stores—colours “pop” but are highly inaccurate and unnatural.

I think the show looks pretty crisp in plain old 1080p.

They figure all the people that watched Picard back in the day don't have the vision to appreciate 4K anymore. :p

Laptop hooked up to the TV. The CBSAA app isn't very stable on my Amazon Fire TV stick, so I watch it through the website.

Friday is a very special day now, somhow do you watch a new episode of Picard? Do you have any rituals or similar, for watching the show?

I don’t mind waiting a day or two before I watch a new episode although I prefer watching on the day of release in case I die before getting a chance to watch it later on.

In the morning, I meditate, go to the gym, have a light lunch (one should never watch Picard on a full stomach) and ensure I’m alone in the house, checking under beds, the sofa and the cloakroom in the hallway.

I ensure the postwoman has been and any Amazon Prime orders have been delivered, so after 2pm is about right.

I brew a pint of tea (Yorkshire tea) and procure a two finger Kit Kat and an orange Kit Kat to consume whilst drinking and watching.

I ready the new episode and engage the subtitles (Many of the American actors have poor diction, mumble their dialogue or get it lost in the background, so it’s a necessity for me at least).

I press play but find I can’t sit still all the way through. I rewind, to watch critical segments again, enjoy a witticism or funny moment or perhaps get up to ‘osmoregulate’ (pint of tea, you see).

Thus it takes me about 60 mins to watch a whole episode.

I tend to watch them again the following week and notice subtleties I missed the first time.

I used to burn incense, ring bells and incant the name of Ishal ma Haq, but it became a bit tiresome and I made up Ishal ma Haq, so I began feeling a bit silly....

Now... your turn......

For Discovery, my wife and I seemed to have shrimp quesadillas every week for awhile which just kind of became a thing, but i don't think there is anything special going on this time.

I typically watch it every on my tablet with my headphones in Thursday morning sometime between 4 and 6am from the comfort on my bed with a 10-month old (who typically can't sleep at that point) snuggled up.
