I've still not fully got my head around the skill point system in Star Trek Online, and during the Beta I've been spreading my points out to learn EVERYTHING. Apparently, this is a bad way of doing things though as certain ships are only capable of certain abilities, and offices can only perform certain abilities and skills with certain ship types and with specific rank slots!
I know that everyone is saying the cruiser tree is the worse to go down, due to turn rate and a few other issues, but I REALLY want to get a Galaxy Class ship and I'm willing to put up with the downfalls just too have one at tier 4/5 or whenever we get the chance to upgrade.
I'm also going to create my main character to follow the engineer career path, as cruisers have more slots for engineers then any other positions. Having the engineering ability 'Reverse Shield Polarity' is a godsend - it turns enemy weapons fire in to shield charging for about 10 seconds!
Still being unsure about the skill system, should I just spend all of my skill points on my officers for their relivant professions (all engineering skills as they will pass from ship to ship and take their skills with them) and also mainly cruiser/engineering related for my captain skills?
Are bridge officers capped in the same way that your captain is? I head that they are not....
