How about we all unite around... watching DS9?

Hi there

As you can see i'm rather new around here (or at least i haven't posted as much). I really like the place and have mostly been lurking. I have been catching up on all the trek shows these last couple of years and wanted to avoid spoilers.

Well here i am at the end of the road, and my clear preference is DS9. I think it's the strongest of any trek show by far (and one of the best all round Sci-fi shows as well).

My suggestion is, that we start watching the DS9 series from scratch. Similar to what have been done with Babylon 5 in this forum for quite some time. I really like that thread.

I was thinking we could start from season 1 and chronologically watch the episodes. Something in the order of two episodes per week, and we had some reviews, discussion etc. It would take a long time, but it would give me a reason to come back often and give the forum something constant.

Now i guess someone other than me (and with more experience here) would be better suited to organize it.

What do you guys think? Am I completely out of order?

Let's watch some DS9!

Regards

Jonas

Jonz, I hope that you get a response...but you have to remember that DS9 came out on DVD starting 3 1/2 years ago. At that time, this forum watched the entire show together from beginning to end over the course of a year. And most of us own the DVDs and/or have been rather religiously watching on SpikeTV.

Additionally, we usually get a few new posters a year who have just purchased the DVDs and are watching from the beginning, and we usually post (and sometimes watch) along with them.

So while I hope you DO get a response, if you don't get much of one, don't assume that there is no enthusiasm for DS9.

There is.

It's just that you are a few years late. ;)

Good luck!

And by the way, there is a backstory on the Babylon 5 thread that as a new poster, you are not aware of. It is not there just because the Niners decided to 'watch B5, a show that they had seen many times'. It is not at all the same sort of situation as the members of this forum watching DS9 together would be.

That thread is there chiefly to work toward healing between the two fandoms - a situation that was a serious problem on this board at one time. As a fan of both shows myself, I organized that thread in hopes of resolving the hard feelings between the fandoms...and the SFF moderator who is most knowledgeable about B5 has been running the thread for me - thus illustrating the staff's unity on the issue of healing...and discovery of *two* wonderful shows.

I hope you can appreciate that it is an entirely different situation.

I'm in, but you're out of order for not bringing jumja for the rest of the class. The next ensign that doesn't make with the jumja tribute will take a tumble out of the furthest airlock.

Why the furthest? That way you'll have time to contemplate your transgresion. I may be sugar deprived, but I am fair....

I actually just finished about ten minutes ago. I hadn't seen the show since the original broadcast.

Soon after my son was born, I started from the beginning. He is now almost two, and he has a baby sister as well.

I am slowly recovering from watching the series finale. I felt closer to the characters than I did when the show was first broadcast. What an amazing program. The flashback sequence brought very real tears to my eyes, as I'm sure it did for most of the people on this board.

Now I can finally start reading the books.....

Well, I just started netflixing DS9, so I would be down for a watching type thing. Two a week would probably work out pretty well for me, because I'm alternating DS9 and TNG dvds right now. When do you want to start?

Sounds good. We can start whenever suits you best. What do you think? Every wednesday or sunday or something or would two weekdays be better?

Judas Ascendant: I will give some praise to the Jumja Stick, but i have a preference for spoo. :)

I'm in. Can we watch one DVD a week (4 episodes) instead of just 2?

I think we should better get this show on the road then. Let's start it up with "Emissary" this sunday.

Should we settle for 4 episodes per week then?

How would that work: monday, wednesday, friday, sunday?

I've watched DS9 so much I can pretty much remember it all without needing to re-watch it. But if someone wants to start threads about each episode, I'm sure I'll jump in. :D

Just for clarity's sake, are we going to do a disc a week? So this week we'll have three episodes? Just wondering.

Sounds about right. Let's start with Emissary tonight and see where it goes from there.
