How about this AICN report?

Fedaykin

Lieutenant Commander

I know their accuracy isn't always 100 percent...but they seem to have a script review (rather negative) and a source saying they've seen footage.

Trek 11 report

I call BS on this as the last thing to be done is FX, so how could they have seen the Enterprise at all ?

* Once again AICN is tossing out rumors to see how many Trek fans they can upset *

I'll tell you one thing. I've always been afraid they'd take that direction with Kirk. Of course, some great military leaders were not the best students at academy (Grant and Custer come to mind). It just didn't seem to fit Kirk, to me.
Or, if we see a hedonistic Kirk learn the importance of responsibility and duty (use his powers for good, so to speak), then MAYBE that would work.

Let's be honest, most news about this movie 'won't work' for a large proportion of the people on this BBS. :p

This is probably legit, as AICN really doesn't have this supposedly awful reputation for reliability that gets bandied around far too much. Their news is usually fairly reliable, and they usually say if they are unsure about the scoop as they have done with the second contributor in this article.

As for the description of Kirk here, personally I don't think it sounds frat boy really. More like he is an unusual candidate for Starfleet who has a rebellious quality about him which often involves him breaking the rules. Sounds like Kirk to me, and if they can show the transition from unruly cadet to the Kirk of TOS then that is a pretty good journey for the character IMO.

Agreed. He obviously was a restless lad. The chief break from that that we know of, was his stint as a JR officer at the Academy as an instructor.

"Stack of Books With Legs", "Watch out in Lt Kirk's class. You either think, or sink."

Obviously there is something that happened which made him shape up and fly right...too right, for a time. The officer he eventually became was a fusion of the early rebellious nonconformist and the dash to the other extreme.

He became a competent, skilled, talented pro who took his job seriously, yet was very aware of how the book could fail you.

But you still needed to know the book, not only as a useful reference, but you can't be a truly good rulebreaker, until you know the system well enough to get away with it.

What the hell? People here would be shocked to learn Kirk was a bit of a rule breaker and a hedonist as a teenager and young adult? That's impossible!

Me thinks some of you might want to go back and watch TOS for the 14th time, I think you missed something....

The same way I got to see ILM's Iron Man FX footage last summer, I would imagine.

It's becoming more common for visual effects to be produced in tandem with principal photography especially when there's a lot of blue/greenscreen work. I'd be shocked if there hasn't been something generated already.

At the very least I would imagine that something would have been produced for the trailer, so I don't find it too hard to believe that some effects shots already exist for the movie.

This is almost certainly 100% fake. There is absolutely no detail given regarding anything, and the Area 51 item is most likely tossed in just to annoy the fans. AICN has been posting so many bogus stories lately it's not even funny.

Nothing too shocking in there, long on opinion and scarce on actual fact on the script itself.

But hey, who am I kidding?

I'm going to see the movie on Christmas, no matter how bad or good it looks. :D

This report is complete bullshit. Even the actors have not seen the entire script. So how could he know what's in the movie ??

I'm calling shennanigans. The Enterprise built in Area 51? It's already been confirmed to be built in space and the trailer will show that. That's one lie already. Nothing in this report is new at all, I could've written it.

I thought young Kirk was a bookworm and Picard was the reckless youth?

can you imagine a scene where the enterprise launches from a planet like the space shuttle

Possibly, but I think it's more likely that you imagined something.

But.... it's on the internet... so it must be true...

:rommie:

Bitching, moaning, bitching, moaning, bitching, moaning.
So, what else under the sun?

Regardless of whether or not any of this is true, I'm moving to the alternate universe where they started the DS9 film series and the 25th century TV show several years ago...
