How About These Combatants for the Dominion War?

Federation
Damar's Rebels (brought in earlier)
Klingons
Tholians

Bad Guys:

Cardassia
Gorn

it would have cost a butt load but for an extra season it would have totally kicked ass to have a true galactic war.

Only if the Dominion wanted to form their own intergalactic Legion of Doom with the Female Changing as it's leader and Weyoun in second command.

Just before and during the early part of the war in late S5 and early S6 other major and minor Alpha quad powers were signing neutrality treaties with the Dominion. This included the Romulan Star Empire and Bajor, even though Bajor's only a minor power with a limited interstellar presence that's mostly confined to Bajor and it's offworld colony in it's sector. I assume the Dominion offered these neutrality treaties as a way to keep other worlds from actively siding with the Federation and the Klingons. Of course the Romulans later joined the war as allies with the federation and Klingons. Only when the war was dragging on and not going in the Dominion's favor in late S7 did the Dominion forge an alliance with the Breen. And even then Damar wasn't all too pleased with this new alliance given the concessions that Cardassia would have to give the Breen. I'd imagine if the Dominion forged alliances with several other powers there would be internal bickering and on how a Dominion victory over a defeated Federation and Klingon Empire would benefit these new allies.

It would have been interesting to see (though more likely it would be "hear") of a wider conflict. It still wouldn't be a true galactic war, more of a regional conflict + some trapped blokes from the Gamma Quadrant.

The Romulans I don't think would want to side with the Dominion, simply because they had a good at wiping out the Founders and would expect the Dominion to give them some payback.

Given the Tholians are meant to be extremely xenophobic I don't see them getting involved, apart from having parties celebrating both sides kicking the crap out of each other.

All from the same part of the Galaxy.

For it to be a true galatic war, we would need to see more powers not from the Federation's neck of the woods. If the Devore, Malon, Viidians and Borg showed up. I'd get the popcorn and watch that eighth season.

Bring in 8472 for a Dominion alliance since 8472 was planning on making an incursion into the Federation at the same time the Dominion war was still raging in DS9's S7. IMO, 8472 would have posed a much larger challenge to Starfleet and the Klingons than even the Breen. Of course Voyager encountered 8472 in the Delta Quadrant and developed a countermeasure using Borg nanoprobes, but Starfleet wouldn't know since contact with the Alpha quad wouldn't be reestablished until Voyager's S6, which coincides with a DS9 S8!
