How about a star trek: Privater or firefly like series

This would work best in the Wild Westy era of the 22nd C. I'd love to have seen the Boomers (humans who explored and colonized space before those Starfleet dopes) and how they react to other humans suddenly showing up in their silly uniforms and trying to boss them around, like anyone's going to listen to them. :rommie:

I've been kicking that around but I realistically see it as more of a "B-Plot" to a 'DS9 Relaunch Era' story. A Pandora-Class freighter, (designed by Kaden) is part of a mission to Cardassia. But, the crap REALLY hits the fan when the ship's about to lift-off & go home, the freighter & its' crew are caught in a border skirmish with rogue Cardassian Guls that have decided to ally themselves with the bluegills from TNG's "Conspiracy" episode, and transform their embarrassment into defensiveness. In the process, assert their independence from Federation hand-out's.

A series about a 24th-Century civilian cargo starship with a definitely non-Starfleet crew is actually what I wanted Series V to be back in 2000...

Why does this have to *the center* of the proposed story? Why not something having to do with Federation assistance with The (Cardassian) Andak Project (DS9 Relaunch Era,) as discussed at Star Trek Online? Keep this "Star Trek: Firefly" concept as the "B-Plot" of a DS9 Relaunch fan fic, with the possibility of re-occurring characters at The Trek Writers' Guild or elsewhere.

I always felt that TNG was at their weakest when they tried to do seedy fringey Mos-Eisley-Cantina-y stuff.

DS9 handled it better... but even there, it always had a Trek feel. It's as if the franchise is so squeaky-clean, down to its very bones, that such story settings cannot help but feel at least a little bit contrived.

Now, I'm not saying it couldn't be done. But this is one case where I agree with the Berman nay-sayers... if you wanted to do ST: Firefly, you'd need new blood.

Not necessarily J. J. Abrams, though...

There was low-budget pilot put together for a Trek-like series called "Privateers" about eight or nine years ago. Starred Karl "Bones McCoy" Urban and had Walter Koenig in it.

You can find the opening on Youtube...the budget was clearly that of a fan film.

This could be interesting. Me, I've always wanted to see a "Dirty Dozen Star Trek," with a motley crew of criminals, sent on dangerous missions after their sentences are commuted. -- RR

I've long had this idea: TOS era, before Kirk's first five year mission. Four life-long buddies, all in Starfleet. They visit once a year when their postings allow. They attend a Starfleet function together and are given an order they know is wrong (haven't worked that out). They refuse and are drummed out of the service. One is your typical command type guy, the other is an ace pilot, the other a great engineer, and the last a super-smart Starfleet Intelligence prospect. He's the only one of the four SF offers a second chance to. Anyway, our typical command guy (I mean this in a good way, think a younger Riker before he was an asshat) goes home in disgrace and learns that his deceased uncle left him his old freighter in his will. He goes to the yards and inspects the ship. Turns out she's in great condition, despite being old. The command guy decides to take his uncle's ship (don't have a name) and go out and get away from it all. He convinces two of his other friends, but the smart guy's a tough sell. They eventually all head out with no clear goal in site. They pick up a fat and greasy drunk pilot in a Rigellian bar who saves their necks after they piss off a few Orions. Not long afterwards, they come across a wrecked Starfleet science vessel. Most of the crew is dead, except for five officers, one of whom is a nurse. They bring them aboard, only to have the other four officers die from their injuries. The nurse eventually joins their makeshift crew and together, they have adventures.

independent merc or freighter captain :)

What, you don't by any chance mean something like this do you?

Somebody already bet you to the idea, I have full rights.

But do you know what I find interesting, I wrote a full blown first post about the idea and I got 2 thread replies, you write a five word starting post and you've already got 5 replies. How the hell does THAT work.

With all due respect, I think you suffer from two problems: 1-you're entirely too sensitive. You act is as if, somehow, we've all offended you by not A) falling in love with your idea and then B) telling you as much in your thread 2-you come off as abrasive. And hey, maybe that's not your intent. Thus is the problem with the written media. But the point is, using the roll eyes and then "staking your claim" to a concept (which, by the way, you can't really have any rights at all to) is a bit of a turn off. Not to mention your response to me about the primacy and superiority of your concept. I really don't intend to offend, I'm just trying to help here. Again, I really do like your idea. Can you like other peoples' ideas despite the goodness of your own?
