House (the 80's film with William Katt)

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I love this movie. just got my DVD from ebay because I couldn't find it in the store.

Films like the Evil Dead series have been praised for capturing a great horror/comedy mixture, and I agree that those films are excellent. I think it if more people watched House, they would agree that it should be right up there on that list. Added bonus are the way the oldies songs are incorporated into the comedy.

Katt is perfect in the lead here. He has to show a wide range of emotions, and his eyes and gestures communicate a lot.

I love "Buzzsaw"'s cameo (from He-Man).

Agreed, I really love this movie. Actually it is pretty ambitious for a horror movie. We have a haunted house, a guy dealing with his memories of Vietnam, coping with the loss of a child and divorce, weird almost Lovecraftian touches (lowering himself into the pit)...also we have the kind of weird friendship he strikes up with Norm from Cheers, nice comedy touches that aren't forced, good characterization..great movie! Unfortunately House II was a major disappointment.

House was good, but House 2 was sheer nerdgasm! and it even kept up the Cheers connection by using Cliff Clavin as The Plumber.

Agreed on all counts. Katt does a fine job through his acting of not only carrying both the serious and comic aspects of the story, but also providing a character that people can relate to. That he may actually be slightly crazy himself adds to it. The story is actually very similar to 1408, and both films required a strong lead performer, because they are largely one-man shows.

I love the placement of the golden oldie songs in this film. Perfect!

The FX were good too, in the 80's way. The creature in the closet would have been CG if done today, and gawd that would have ruined it. I also love the "Evil Dead" bat/skull creature in the void that took his shotgun. But I honestly think that the real payoff is Big Ben as a skeleton. He could have had his own movie!

God, I loved this movie as a kid, hadn't seen it in years. The Greatest American Hero and Bull, what else could you ask for in a movie. I had no idea there was a second one, must see if I can find it to check out.

The third House was actually an original movie that just got House III slapped onto it for release. Sort of like Havoc 2 or 8mm 2.

I loved this film but I haven't seen it in years!

"Damn, came back from the grave and ran out of ammunition."

Agreed the bit where the bat-skull nicks his shotgun is very good, and I like the part where Katt pulls Ben's arm off and hits him with it and Ben says something along the lines of. "Is that the best you can do, you pussy!"

It is geuninly creepy as well as funny though, the ghost of the old lady, the decent into the pit etc...

Damn it's making me want to find a copy now!

I haven't seen this since it originally aired on cable. Sounds like a good one to throw into the DVD queue for October.
