I think Masters has been a welcome change for the show. She is the first person to really challenge House's techniques and (often) win. Her character certainly has more of a reason to exist than any of the other doclings.

. But it would be best for House if she stayed, and he's even recognized that. She's become the conscience that the team sorely lacks, and her idealism has proved to be a good balance for his amorality.

Yeah but House doesn't pay any attention to her and does what he wants anyway.

Did you not see the end of this episode where House told Masters that he needed her to stop him from doing things that could hurt Cuddy? So yeah, he's tended to ignore her and do what he wants, but he's finally caught on that he shouldn't do that.

I'm surprised by all the talk above about wanting Masters to leave. What struck me about this episode was how important Masters has become. It was striking when House told her at the end that he needed her to keep him from doing something that would get Cuddy in trouble. Essentially, he needs her as his conscience. And Amber Tamblyn did some really fine acting here when House blackmailed her. I know she's only meant to fill in until Olivia Wilde returns, but I'm hoping that they'll find a way to keep both women around.

I think Amber is a brilliant actress. I can't recall seeing her turn in anything less than a wonderful performance. She got rooked at the emmies both years Joan of Arcadia was on. She was, IMHO, the best actress on the air those years, and Edie Falco got the award for standing around the Sopranos' kitchen moping. TANJ!

Finally saw the episode. It was shot a bit differently. Everything felt darker and more eerie, probably to make the situation feel more dire as if it was "a very special episode" as mentioned above. And I didn't like the way House treated Masters either. That was crossing the line.

As for Masters leaving and Thirteen coming back, I wish Masters would stay. In fact, last night, I got to wondering if they might actually release Olivia Wilde from her contract and keep Tamblyn full-time. Her name wasn't in the opening credits. Besides, Wilde's movie career is taking off and House seems like it's getting in the way.

In all likely season 8 would be the last and I think we should see the death of 13 because that could open up some really juicy scenes with her illness. That would allow Masters to return until the conclusion of the series.

Nice episode. This is what relplaced the planned "house on the road" arc?

I liked how House went all Godfather on Masterslike that.
I don't think it's crossing the line for House at least.

It was crossing a line ethically AND legally. Any human resources department would have him dismissed the instant they found out about it. If they found out about it.

We've had training courses up the wazoo here at work about ethics and responsibility and the law. You do NOT order a subordinate to commit a crime under threat of career ruination. You do not TRICK a subordinate into committing a crime to use as blackmail against her. She could have House not only fired, but jailed if she wanted to.
