"Hook"...do you like it?

19 and no. Hoffman and Roberts had some moments, Williams (who I've liked in other films) not so much and the writing, pacing was pretty bad.

I wouldn't put in the "classic" category like Shawshank Redemption but I really like the movie.

I've always thought this was a very underrated movie. It doesn't work as well as it could have obviously, but the idea behind it--of a grown up Peter who's forgotten who he is-- is so damn good that I still find myself liking it anyway.

Well I liked it and I was 20 when it came out. I even remember having one of the most vivid flying dreams I have ever had at that time the movie came out and I don't think it was a coincidence.

One of them for me is where, when the lost boys are trying to decide if this grown up man is Peter Pan, the little lost boy starts looking at him up close, brings him down in front of him, and starts smushing his face until he says, "Oh there you are, Peter!" I cry every time I see that.

I was older [29] when I saw it than many of you were, but I liked it... I mainly recall enjoying Hoffman's absurdly wonderful job as Hook lol.

...and it was MURDERED at the time by nearly everyone. I didn't love it but I liked it a lot more than most people I knew did.

About to turn 46 here. Saw it with great anticipation at the time and was more than let down by both the story and the direction. Plus even a few of the performances left me flat.

It just reeked so badly of Spielbergian homogeneity and was filled with so many "ain't we clever?" conceits and self-congratulatory back-pats that I just never once felt the whimsy and fancy of the original story...which is vital to making a sequel (of sorts) work. The whole thing FELT like a big soundstage, whereas the faithful Pan remake of 2003 felt like the whole universe was Pan's for the taking!

One of those "I really WANTED to like it" movies that never really came very close to the mark.

I'm 27 and I HATE Hook, the whole point of Peter Pan is that he's the boy who never grows up and here comes Spielberg and makes a movie where Peter ... grew up. I love the original story and "Hook" shits all over the ending, Peter promised to come back every year, but he forgot, just like he forgot Hook and Tinkerbell after their deaths. When he finally remembered and came back, Wendy was grown up and he took her daughter Jane to Neverland and when he remembered Jane, she was grown up and he took her daughter to Neverland, it's supposed to be a continuing cycle, it's even implied that Wendy's mother met Peter, when she was a girl. The idea that Peter would suddenly fall in love and just say "Screw Neverland, I'm growing up so I can get married, because Wendy's granddaughter is totally cute!" is stupid, stupid, stupid.

But even if I ignore that and just watch the movie I can't stand Robin Williams, he's okay as the adult who has forgotten that he was Peter Pan, but as soon as he remembers and starts acting like a child it's getting embarassing to watch him (and don't get me started on the movie "Jack", Robin Williams as a 10 year old boy with an aging disorder? I almost barfed when I watched that). The Lost Boys were incredibly annoying and of course the "funny" fat kid is made the leader in the end, how pc, everyone can become "The Pan". I hated whiny Tinkerbell, and how Hook was able to come to earth to kidnap Peter's kids is never even hinted at, it's one of the biggest and most obvious plotholes I can think of.

I've never really understood the fascination with the whole Peter Pan fairy tale to begin with. Aside from the desire to be able to fly, I found the whole Pan universe rather - bizarre, and in a ride-on-the-chocolate-Wonka-river way. Hook has a score that I loved, but the movie didn't do much for me.

Other than that, I didn't like Rufio, or Jack, or Hook, and only sometimes Peter. The Lost Boys' feast looked disgusting, and nothing in neverland had any feeling of space or air - it felt like a Disney ride.

And I LOATHED Tinkerbell. That whole B-story struck me as very stupid. To me it seemed like an excuse to make Julia Roberts normal size and show off her "beauty."

The movie has its moments, and I have an old taped-from-tv copy somewhere, but I never have the urge to watch it. I'd rather listen to the Broadway show, which at least has some catchy songs. One of these days, I AM going to rent the 2003 version that everyone speaks so highly of. Maybe that one will help me understand why Peter Pan seems to have such a wide appeal.

Oh, and I'm 33.

LOVE this movie. Stellar cast, and Dustin Hoffman lends Hook just the right amount of menace and humanity. Now that you post this, I haven't watched it in ages. Think it might be time to bust it out again.

it's one of my favorites.

i enjoy Hook. it's not great, but it's got some great moments. honestly all spielberg movies do. they always have a couple scenes that are just really well done.

I enjoyed it the first time around, but watching it now, frankly, I find myself cringing with embarrassment pretty much through the entire thing. Although it was made in 1991, it feels very "80s" to me, and it just hasn't aged very well.

I liked the Peter story better than Hook.

I remember it being okay, overall, but not particularly memorable.

Also, this was Julia Roberts' "comeback" after her nervous breakdown, wasn't it?
