Homeworld: Emergence

I'd always heard this was on the very unlikely side of impossible, but apparently GOG have gone and gotten Homeworld: Cataclysm working on modern systems..and renamed it 'Emergence' for fear that Blizzard might sue them.

I still have my original copy but the last time I tried installing it I could barely get it to function, so I may get this version at some point. After all, in the absence of the source file I doubt a full remastered edition is likely to ever materialise.

Only slightly disappointed this wasn't about a new Homeworld game. I might see if I can load up the game via my old physical copy first, but really pleased to see this is still available.

Holy cow! I wonder how they pulled that off?

Maybe we can get a fan remaster out of this, eventually. (Assuming an official remaster is out of the question for the same rights issues that kept this one as abandonware for so long.)

^GOG have a lot of experience getting old PC games working on modern systems and apparently they didn't even need the source code (which is still MIA so far as I'm aware.)

I wouldn't expect a fan remaster anytime soon as without said source code, the only way to do it is from scratch. All new assets, all new mission design, cinematics, voice work, the whole shebang. Not the kind of thing even a dedicated group of fans can reasonably pull off in anything under a decade.
Hell, just look how long the Black Mesa mod has taken to get finished (they've promised this year) and that had some actual funding behind it thanks to a paid Steam release.
