I wonder when the UK gets their first delivery if we havnt already.

I though the F-22's weren't going to be experted? It was a comment in an online discussion about whether Australia would be better off with F-22's than the F-35 Joint Strike Turkey.

yeh I think you're right, we're only getting the F-35's, about 138 of them.

just bye chance i found it on my Military photos forum

it sounds like the F-22 will be entering full production though (hopefully) cant wait for the F-35 to start rolling off the lines

I didnt think the F-22 Production lines where that far along

Really? They've been making them long enough that they've already appeared in a movie, it's no surprise there are already small squadrons of them.

Cool picks BTW.

Cool pics.. I used to know a guy who ran the boom on a KC-135. He would tell us about filling up planes that he was told "this plane was never here you never filled it and don't talk to it"..

well, if there's anything the government does well it is blowing money on unnecessary crap. In regards to the F-22, I was under the impression that their delivery was actually behind schedule...
In any case I preferred the YF-23 design so I'm just hanging on to my grudge about that.

...I'd settle for them being as good as S-300 or S-400 SAMs. But odds are, they'd lose out to those, both in combat and in financial terms.

OTOH, the USAF of today could dominate air-to-air combat with some resurrected Voodoos or Delta Daggers. The only air force that could put up respectable resistance today would be the Indian one, with both the quantity of excellent Russian planes and the fuel and spares to fly them.

Really, the last report I read put the Russian air strength at well below a hundred functioning and available combat aircraft (excluding transports and helicopters), with less than fifty flying hours left in most of them. Admittedly, that's something written by officers who want their government to give better funding, but even if we dismiss half of it as exaggeration, it's still pretty dismal.

The F-22's primary advantage is it's stealth technology. The USAF has weighed that against the performance disadvantages the design entails and decided it's worth the trade. Who cares about a dog fight if your enemy is dead before they even know you're there?

And the few airplanes capable of out-flying the F-22 are either in the hands of our allies or in such few number their relevance would be inconsequential on the battle field. I'm also a firm believer in the training and combat experience of the average American fighter pilot. I'd put a US pilot in a 15 year old F-15 in a close range dog fight against some North Korean or Chinese in a more modern plane any day.

There was a very public showing of the F-22's capabilities at the P-51 Mustang Gathering at Rickenbacker Airport, Columbus Ohio in September 07.

The F-22 pilot did a great show every day and did a number of maneuvers that frankly had everyone's jaws on the ground.

Yeah I saw it too this past year at the Canadian International Air Show. It's a fantastic plane.

Except that the North Koreans don't really have any modern fighter planes, just obsolete MIG 17's. What threat are they to the USA/Europe? None.

Also, getting jets like these will just start off another arms race between the USA and the PRC (People's Republic Of China) who will then launch a spying operation to get the stealth tecnology for China (if they haven't done so already). Timo is right-an old Delta Dagger or a Voodoo would work just as well, or maybe just an ordinary F-15/F-16.

You missed my point, but thanks for playing.

Yeah, you keep on believing a Vietnam era warplane would be just as good as the F-22.

I've been "YouTubing" F-22 videos and I take back some of what I've said re: their maneuverability (taken from other sources). It's outstanding, and it's low speed performance is mind-bending.
