Holy crap, is Riker ever happy, like, EVER?

I think consently being on edge and in battle has made it hard to enjoy his rank. Wasn't titan supposed to be a deep exporation ship? They really haven't had the chance to explore to much.

They did plenty of exploring in The Red King, Orion's Hounds, and Over a Torrent Sea. Not to mention that there are a lot of large gaps between novels: two and a half months between OH and Sword of Damocles, nearly eight months between SoD and Destiny, two months between the prologue and first chapter of OaTS, and apparently a full year between Synthesis and Seize the Fire. Plenty of time for exploration -- and for Riker to have at least the occasional good mood.

Not really a whole lot of exploring in The Red King. It was a place where the Excelsior along with Akaar and Tuvok had been before.

It would be nice if we'd see the exploring and Riker being in a good mood. Having it happen between books doesn't really fulfill the need.

I'm also a little bothered by the idea of a Vulcan caregiver for human (or particularly human-betazoid) infants. Human babies need a great deal of emotional interaction to develop normally, and I wonder how a Vulcan is able to provide that. Perhaps T'Pel feels it is logical to express emotions to some degree around the infant, as that is a psychological necessity for the human-betazoid development. I'd hate to imagine that poor baby stuck in a room for 8 hours a day with an emotionally repressed Vulcan. Might turn her into a sociopath.

I think I addressed that when I established T'Pel in that role in my TTN books, didn't I? I tried to paint her as someone who believed in managing emotion, not simply repressing or denying it. I think her view would be that, since it is a scientific fact that infants require touch and affection for optimal physical, psychological, and social development, it would therefore be illogical to deny it to them.

I'd like to see more of T'Pel so that I can get a better understanding of her own particular approach to handling the emotional needs of others. For example, I wonder if she's better with emotional children than emotional adults, that sort of thing. I'd love to have a fly on the wall scene in a novel where we get to see her going, "T'coochie t'coochie s'coo" or "Pi is 3.14159! Yes it is! Avogadro's constant is 6.02 x 10^23. That is logical! Oh yes, it is logical!" or whatever Vulcans say to their babies.

Yeah, but in between all those things, he gets to sleep with Deanna Troi. I'd say that on the whole, he's pretty damn happy. :D

Oh my ... the first time I read "on the whore" instead of "on the whole". ;-) Funny how one letter can change the whole meaning sometimes.

I'm probably going to catch flak for this, but I'm going to say it anyways; I'd rather sleep with 7 of 9 than Deanna Troi.

^In terms of appearance? I can certainly see the appeal. But given the choice between a socially maladjusted cold fish and a deeply compassionate woman who comes from an uninhibited culture and can sense exactly what will make her partner happy... well, are you sure you want to base your decision on looks alone?

Well, now that you put it that way.

TBH nothing would appeal to me less than more of Riker and Troi "family scenes".
God Almighty, Troi just sucks the energy out of me so the thought of her mewling over a baby is too terrible to contemplate.
:rommie:

I remember Frakes and Sirtis once suggested doing the story of Riker and Troi's marriage as a TV sitcom (and were only half joking  )...

Then again, how are *Vulcan* babies normally raised? Obviously Vulcan parents wouldn't act emotional to a Vulcan baby. If Tasha is raised in part by a Vulcan, she might simply act Vulcan when she is older...

I like Riker and Troi, but I find this idea to be fairly horrifying. (Then again, the only sitcom I've been able to stand for years has been Big Bang Theory.)

They can't do that sitcom anymore, if only for the fact that Majel has passed on. Any Riker-Troi sitcom also has to have Lwaxana!

Bah, Troi has zero sense of humor, as demonstrated by her reaction to Barclay's Goddess of Empathy program. If she'd had a sense of humor, she'd have made a crack like, "Wow, are my boobs really that big?" and given her holoself a sultry peck on the cheek while giving a knowing look at a suddenly uncomfortable-looking Riker.

This scene NEEDS TO HAPPEN, damn it. :guffaw:

Riker seems happy when he's talking about sex. Like when Data needed dating advice in "In Theory".

I wonder if Deanna's ever fearful that she might turn into Lwaxana upon becoming a mom. "Will, the first time I call Tasha 'little one,' make sure the phaser's on kill."
