In pt 2 of the Ep "Dark Frontier" Chakoty finds Kathrine in her DeVinci program, he comments that she is recording her Official Star Fleet log onto holographic paper and ink. One could to the conclusion that that if the program was damaged or destroyed her records would also be lost. And that operation was a pretty important one to trust to 800 yr + technology, anyone else care to comment on the need to commit official Star Fleet records to (ESPICALLY IMPORTANT ONES) case in point how cool would it be to commit are of are important Documents, Legal stuff..ect to hammer chisel and granite....

I always assumed she was just composing it in the holodeck program but was going to enter it into the computerized official log later.

How do we know it was holographic paper and ink? Couldn't she just replicated them before entering the holodeck? She did leave from holodeck with Chakotay the paper in her hands, so once out of the door, the paper would have vanished.

Also, writing her thoughts down before recording the log makes sense after such an eventful days with the Borg.

I know you're right, I can't imagine that offical S-Fleet records would be recorded on anything but offical S-Fleet computerized files. I did like the scene, it brought a bit of humanity to the scene in question...

I actually programmed the holodeck to monitor what I was writing, which then allowed the ships computer to transfer what I had written to my official logs.
