Hitler no longer able to review movies?

I've just read that all the footage of Hitler discovering various movie outrages or whatever have been removed from YouTube. You know those hilarious films with the subtitles rewritten. Has anyone else heard this?

I saw blurbs about this at both the AV Club and Salon, so it appears to be true. It seems the production company who owns Downfall finally decided to go after people who had used the infamous clip.

That sucks, the Downfall Hitler thing was one of my favorite memes of recent years. Always good for a laugh.

What's wrong with a laugh? I saw Downfall, and it was a great movie, doesn't mean we can't have a laugh.

This meme made lots of people to watch the actual movie, so the production company probably has to thank the internets ...
The movie's director said that he liked the meme.

I'll miss Hitler. Sure, he was no Siskel or Ebert, but he was still really perceptive and always had constructive things to say about movies.

He struck me as a bit of a nutter, though. I mean, he's clearly copying either Nostalgia Critic or Angry Video Game Nerd.

;)

Radio 4's PM programme had an interview with the director of Downfall this afternoon (21st April, that is). He wasn't objecting to the film's owners enforcing their copyright, but at the same time he seemed a bit regreful about it, even reeling off a list of some of his favourites.

Darn. The first one I ever saw was the one involving Burger King, and I laughed so hard that my sides nearly split open.

You know, someone will simply have to swede the scene now.

"Don't worry, he'll realize the irony soon."

Does anyone have any idea who did the first "Downfall" parody? Has anyone ever credibly taken credit for it?

"Don't worry, he'll realize the irony soon." Ok, I literally laughed out with that one. I agree with, erm, "Hitler" (man that look wierd typing that) that these "parodies" seem to kind-of fall into "fair-use" but, whatever. It also seems like it was pretty good free-advertising for the movie makers. Hell I was planning on buyng the movie because of these videos. I won't now out of spite.

That one is great. :bolian: :guffaw:

I saw Der Untergang (which is great, BTW) long before these parodies started, it was very talked about at the time - as far as European films go, anyway - especially for Bruno Ganz's performance as Hitler, and it caused some controversy at the time as well. But I have no doubt that the parodies exposed many more people to it. It's really silly that they've done this, it was really good publicity, and it only could help people get interested in the film. It's not like someone has put the entire film on Youtube, or that it someone "spoiled" a film by posting a crucial scene (what, Hitler lost the war? what a spoiler!)

Unfortunately I'm not too surprised, but I'll miss them. My personal favorite was the one where Hitler's officers cheated him at Risk.
