Hit the road, Jack (Harkness), and don't you come back no more.

What should Captain Jack Harkness' role be in future stories?

How do you feel about Captain Jack now? What should his role be in the franchise's future?

I'm not entirely sure. I want more Torchwood if they can keep the quality up, and if they make it then I think Jack should come back and deal with it, but on the other hand I don't want any more if it's just going to return and be "middle of the road" again.

I wouldn't mind more Torchwood without Jack. I never took to Barrowman's acting in Torchwood, even in CoE - I just don't think he's good enough as a dramatic actor. He's better suited to the parent show.

I wouldn't necessarily mind Torchwood without him in it, I'd just rather see him deal with some of the fallout from it, than basically leave his character dangling.

Well I still stick to brining him back by having him meet the 11th Doctor during his 2 year memory wipe. You'd get to see a happier more carefree Jack, and also see that it was the Doctor who fucked him up so bad in the first place.

Question is, what could Jack do to atone for his actions in CoE? Does he need to atone? Personally I'd still love to see Jack or the Doctor find the homeworld of the 456 and, if nothing else, put those kids from the 60s out of their misery.

I don't think he has to atone in the general sense, he saved millions of lives. But yeah he has personal demons to face.

I still want to see this as well. :D

I definitely want to the "current" Jack in addition to the above because I want to see Jack deal with the consequences of his action and see how The Doctor reacts to it. When Children of Earth ended, I was content with that acting as Torchwood's final chapter, ending the series on a huge high. I know that's not going to happen so I do want Jack to return to Torchwood.

based on what we have seen so far I think he has a future, it would be wrong to end his character simply because RTDs has left Doctor Who.

Well we all know he will gain redemption, and he has a future, assuming he can FACE up to it ;)

None of the above.

Jack is now on a journey, where he will have to travel so far to find a way to redeem himself. It'll be fine.

It'll be interesting to see where the Doctor and Jack will cross paths next. That will be a big part of the story.

The guy saved the planet so I don't hate him it was a hard choice but the right one. I think we should let the 11th Doctor meet him and then that can spur Jack onto a return for Torchwood.

It was a joke, a throwaway line in passing. Jack is not the Face of Boe.

Actually Julie Gardner, Russell T Davies, John Barrowman and David Tennant have all said he is the Face of Boe. So I'd say that's pretty authoritative.

As to the poll, I think Captain Jack is the most interesting character Doctor Who has given us next to The Doctor himself. People who get all hot and bothered over his choices in Children of Earth need to be reminded that it's just a TV show (just like all those people cursing Dr. Phlox because of what he did in Dear Doctor). It's just a TV show, and Torchwood was specifically designed to go places DW is not allowed to go. That said, there's nothing Jack did in COE that the Doctor hasn't done a millionfold elsewhere. He allowed Vesuvius to blow up, for heavens sake! ;)

aside from JB, though, none of those opinions count any more. and who's to say Moff'll even take notice of JB's.

personally, i want him back as an occassionaly companion.

Jack is the modern day equivalent to The Brigadier. He should continue the occasional appearance throughout the life of the series or the actor, whichever comes first... :techman:

I don't think he's beyond redemption, but I think that the murder of his own grandson is something Jack will need to seriously struggle to atone for, and for a long time.

I'm really not a huge fan of the actor, and it would follow suit for a Season 4 to have even fewer characters than the previous season, so I say leave him out of it.

I want to see the Captain Jack we met in Doctor Dances.

Let's see Captain Jack: Time Traveling Con Man

I want to see Jack come back, on DW and on TW. He's just too interesting of a character to drop.

What he did was the only available choice he had. Sure the Doctor could have shown up and saved the day with a wave of his Sonic Screwdriver, but Jack isn't the Doctor.
