Himbo: Why did ladies accept Trip when they rejected Riker?

Re: Himbo: Why did ladies accept Trip when they rejected Rik

Oh yes, beards are ugly, ugly ugly. Nobody looks good with a beard.

Sorry, boys.

2. Trip was a featured player and had better writing at the beginning of the series run.
The thing that I don't get is that the producers of TNG decided not to stick to their guns in featuring Riker as "The Man" of TNG after Seasons 1 and 2, where as with Trip, the producers decided to stick with him being "The Man" for all 4 seasons of ENT.

Was Riker a "man-whore-like character" that was forced upon the female viewers in the audience? In retrospect, Jonathan Frakes with all his handsomeness and charm perhaps proves the notion that women look beyond "just looks" when they are attracted to certain men.

Riker got fat. So did Worf.

It was always hilarious how their action figures, or portrayals in the comics were so lean and muscular, yet on the show they had just turned in to cows.

That's why, GWR.
My sister and all of my friends used to rip into Riker that way too during the 1990's.

To tell you the truth, celebrities like Vince Vaughn and Leonardo DiCaprio -- and heaven forbid, the late-Marlon Brando have it just as bad, perhaps even much worse when it comes to weight gain than our very own JF. :borg:

EDIT:

You're also completely ignoring the love there was for Archer and Reed throughout the series' run as well. Hell, you were a member here at the time. Don't you remember all the bitching and fighting between the T/T'ers and the A/T'ers and the "Reed Ragers" ?
Somewhere between the 80's - 00's, with the emergence of entertainers like Marky Mark and Usher, "good looks" from men transferred from the face to the body as far as Hollywood goes.

I find neither particularly attractive. In a previous post Riker is described as "smarmy" and that's how I feel about him as well.
Well, how important is "comfort level" with a man to you, once you have found him attractive and are willing to give him the time of day to seduce you?

Heh. Well, in some aspects I need to feel comfortable while in other areas I like a challenge...
Let me make this clear: I don't hate Riker as a character and I don't think exactly that he is a "man whore". If he likes to hook up with lots of women he barely knows that's fine with me, but it doesn't make him attractive to me either. If he came on to me like he does on the show to his "companions" I just wouldn't be interested.
To me Riker was never the gorgeous hunk to make me swoon but hey - all the male main characters in all Trek incarnations fail to make me weak in the knees. TPTB clearly don't know my tastes. Luckily Trek has to offer more than just eye candy. ;)

Re: Himbo: Why did ladies accept Trip when they rejected Rik

Trip seems like a sweet guy. Riker comes off as an arrogant jerk. It's as simple as that, guys: study both of them to see what do to and what NOT to do.

I just don't see it.

I have known women who have blocked/dropped guys for a lot less of a difference/dichotomy between each other. A lot less.

He's the armpit and she's the deodorant. :cardie:
In all honesty, if it came down to Billy Boy Riker and Dennis Kunidich...

Just think about it. ;)

Well, as I understand it a "himbo" is a male bimbo and thus pretty to look at yet rather dumb. I wouldn't be attracted to that kind of guy anyways. And since most Trek characters are supposed to be rather smart, I find it difficult to apply the term to any of them at all.
How do you define the term, exactly?

That about sums it up for me.

Mind you, I'm not all crazygirl over either of them, to be honest. But of the two, it is Trinneer by a mile.

Well, Bashir was Trek's hottest nerdboy. ;)

Bashir made nerdiness look elegant and cultured. And part of being a stereotypical nerd is not being particularly 'experienced' with women. His clumsiness with women - including his oftentimes 'interesting' choices, is part of his charm as Trek's Hottest Nerd. ;)

I'd take Bashir ANY day over Riker OR Trip.

In your humble opinion.

Re: Himbo: Why did ladies accept Trip when they rejected Rik

I would honestly have to say that the beard was the "jump the shark" moment for me as far as the original conception of the Will Riker character was concerned. Personally, my favorite post-Season 1 look for Riker was when he appeared cleanshaven in Insurrection -- on the TV show, I would have preferred it if he had kept that look all along.

I only really liked Riker with the beard in Season 2 of TNG, as well as the goatee he grew as Thomas Riker. He looked good with the beard in First Contact and Nemesis, but by then he was more seasoned and suited his look really well at that stage of his life (like an older Sean Connery). :borg:

Re: Himbo: Why did ladies accept Trip when they rejected Rik

"Why did the ladies accept Trip"?

Simple really, some women have no taste.

That's all right.

I might think you're ugly too, if I met you.
