So you blame the poor harassed and badgered James McArthur for firing that torpedo, rather than the browbeating hardassness of the captain?
If the BEDFORD had McCoy as CMO, maybe it wouldn't've happened. Then again, McCoy berates Kirk fiercely AFTER Bailey has his blowup/blowout, which is too little/too late IMO.

You don't step up and interrupt your superior officer, and you don't comment on what he's done in front of the crew, regardless of friendship. Even McCoy is military enough to know that. I was always amazed that the TNG writers didn't get that.
