Highlander remake on the way

It wouldn't be a Highlander film if they don't use the "Princes of the Universe" song to open the movie. They better have that.

I agree with that, it wouldn't be the same without it.

I would think it's not supposed to be the same.

Fair enough. I suppose it's just a nostalgia thing for me. I am more of a series guy, and a Queen fan. Either way I would love for a remake/reboot to happen. Just getting tired of holding my breath.

not using Princes of the Universe in a new Highlander movie would be like not using the Ghostbusters song in a new Ghostbusters movie.

They've made quite a few Highlander movies without it.
Heh, most don't consider those Highlander movies, just bad dreams brought on by eating spicy food too late at night :rommie:

I don't care what anybody else thinks. I enjoyed Endgame. Coulda done without the others though.

Oh, you won't find a bigger Queen fan than me, I can assure you. I love the original film, and like the show. I just can't see the point of remaking it, just to copy such a major part of the original. Give me something all new.

Although to be honest A Kind of Magic is my least favourite album Queen album, except maybe Jazz. And the best song on the album, One Vision, wasn't used in the film. It did make it into the awful Iron Eagle though, sadly.

The brilliance of the Queen soundtrack not withstanding... Muse would be amazing.. But I bet they wouldn't come in on budget.. They are just gaining steam and I bet would balk at the time it would take to write an original soundtrack, rather than just provide some existing material or even just one original song...

Interesting side note.. Originally, Marillion was considered for the sountrack but due to album obligations of their own, they weren't able to do it, and thus, enter Queen.

IIRC, Queen was on a bit of slump at that point, were they not? I do recall that Marillion supported Queen for the "It's a Kind of Magic" tour...

Well, they were in a slump in the states from Hot Space onwards, and never really recovered from it, but they were pretty much still the biggest rock band in the world anyway. The Magic tour was one of the biggest tours of all time in terms of attendance, despite not going to the USA.

The previous album The Works was less successful, but still a megahit by most bands' standards. I would say they were in a bit of a relative creative slump around that time though. Hot Space through to the Miracle all have fantastic songs and are admirably adventurous, but lack the pure start to finish brilliance of their older albums.

The franchise had only one movie and one tv show. Highlander never had any movie sequels.:p

The tv series had such an epic opening.

And an epic ending too.

I like the movie and I love the series. They were able to take the concept and do so much more with it than they could fit in a single movie. I hope they keep that in mind while making a reboot. The worst thing to do, I think, would be to simply make a point-by-point remake of the original movie and completely ignore the possibilities of the theme.

They gotta keep those Dragon head katanas though. Connor had a third generation one, while Duncan had a first generation, but either one will do.

I agree with that, it wouldn't be the same without it. I could live with a remake as long as Brian May sits in on guitar.

I would be weary of a remake. I don't want to be reminded of the monstrosity that was the "Princes of the Universe" cover in Highlander: The Source.

Gah! Why did you post that? After years of intense therapy, I'd finally scoured every memory of that movie from my brain! :scream:

^ This is my problem with a remake indeed! Instead of getting something that would restore the franchise to proper magic, we could end up with something even worse and more shaming! Noooooo!!!

Actually, I know Wingfield is probably to old to seem immortal like Methos, but perhaps a spinoff with a new actor in some magical time period with our favorite 5k year old might be nice. Or not. Really, I'm content with the good of the series and am not really comfortable with someone dicking this franchise any further.

The film is being made with a good budget by people with a proven track record of decent functional action movies, there is absolutely no chance it will be worse than The Source.

And frankly, at this point it really doesn't matter what they do with the franchise. They can't destroy it any further than they already have, it's just not possible.

Wait you have to work to forget Highlander: The Source, I though it should be easy since the movie is apparently so forgetable the makers felt the need to include a recap of the plot of the film up to the end IN THE FILM.

Maybe they will just do a slight sequel/reboot ala Superman Returns or X-Men First Class and base it off the first movie only. It will most likely be a complete reboot, starring an actual Scottsman like Gerard butler. Or maybe an Irishman like Cillian Murphey. Throw in Colm Meany while their at it.

I made the mistake and watched that. End game was ok.
