Highlander Reboot/Prequel Anticipation Thread

I think the original is arguably one of the best bad movies ever made
I really get annoyed at this retcon of Highlander as a "good bad" or "so bad it's good movie"

Highlander is just a really fukin good movie. Story is good, it looks good, acting is good (ya big woop the Egyptian sounds Scottish etc.), soundtrack is great, actions scenes are good, drama and emotion are good, the flow and pace are good.

Which bit is the bit that makes it good but only with an asterisks.

Always worth reminding people that it won the Academy Award™ for best movie ever made. :bolian:

It’s cheesy as hell, the dialogue is hokey, Lambert is wooden (but charming) and the accents are bonkers. But yes, I agree, it looks fantastic (Mulcahy was a great visually stylistic director and the scenery is amazing) and as a big Queen fan I love the soundtrack. It’s immensely entertaining, I love it to bits, but as sword-swinging historical epics go, I can’t pretend it’s on a par with eg Gladiator in terms of how well made it is.

My only real issue was that you can clearly see the wires hoisting Christopher Lambert during the quickening scene.

It's a very silly movie, there's no shame in admitting it. It doesn't make it less of an enjoyable film either.

Cheesy yes like most action movies.

But I replied you said "best bad movie". It is not a bad movie it just has dialogue that was common for this type of movie. It's leagues above something like the poorer Arnie or Norris movies that get called "good bad"

I like Highlander 2........there, i said it out loud. lol
I like a lot about Highlander II, but it took me a looong time to get there. :D
I don't enjoy it like I do the original Highlander, and in most ways I mentally distance it from the original. It ramps up the goofy stuff way too far, and I kind of hate some of the performances in it. And yet, I can still watch it and enjoy it.

I may have said this in another thread (I’m not sure) but I think Henry Cavill is the wrong person to play Connor MacCleod.
I think one of the reasons he survived so long was because his enemies underestimated him because of his size.

Cavill could play Duncan MacCleod, with just a few hair extensions.

Who could play Connor? Hmmm.
You would need someone who is small enough to be non-threatening, but big enough to be believeable enough to be able to defend themselives.
David Spade?

Just kidding

“My name is Matt Foley, of the clan Foley, and I LIVE IN A VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER!!”

😁😂

At least Adrian Paul is British, its closer i suppose. He tried and did an 'ok' job in the flashbacks on the accent.

I suppose in reality someone who is 500 years old and likely spent most of their lives living in the US is going to lose their Scottish accent
