Highlander Reboot/Prequel Anticipation Thread

Finally, seems they've been talking about this forever now.
I think he'd be great in it! It's a movie that could definitely use a reboot. And, unlike the first one, plan for potential sequels so that things don't immediately get messy.

I'm cautiously optomistic about this, as I really like Cavill as an actor. I'm just afraid I won't get past his chiseled "Superman" look. One of the things I liked about Lambert in the role is that he didn't look too pretty and wasn't all buffed out. I'm curious to see where this goes.

Now that I will agree with. Plus Lambert's roots are a Frenchman only just learning English and mixing things in making him sound like he lived across the globe over many centuries.

I dunno, the original film is just a lightening in a bottle film that works in spite of itself, and because Lambert, Connery and Brown are so great.

@Mage you are not alone in loving the original. The equals on the other hand...I still remember how excited I was to see Highlander 2 at the cinema. Oh. Dear.

The tv show was fun however.

I enjoyed the first movie and most of the TV series (mostly the Paris episodes).

Can this reboot be better? That's what I don't know.

Hey, at least the new one will be going in knowing not to end the story with the very first movie this time. ;)
(I actually like that the original was a one-and-done, but obviously the new one will be franchise-friendly.)

The sequels are all quite bad, true. But they have a charm. The Sorcerer actually had some good moments. And the director's edition of Endgame works a bit better than the original one. Though it is still utterly crap as well.
The Source is just..... Wow.....

As for The Quickening.... I think it works because it's so bad. I haven't seen it in years but I remember rewatching it and turning my brain in 'don't take it serious' mode and started enjoying several scenes and moments between Connor and Ramirez. Michael Ironside is so amazingly over the top that it becomes almost captivating. Yes, it's an absolute shit movie, but once every so many years I enjoy watching it and having a good laugh. It's a pity that production was basically taken over by the money-men and Mulcahy got pushed a side.

Absolutely, it's not a good movie, but it's a GREAT bad movie. Funny as hell in the right frame of mind. As such, I prefer the non-Renegade version for maximum enjoyment.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. If you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust."

Only one of the sequels actually takes into account the movie/s that came before it. All the other twist previous events in one way or another to fit their new story.

Like it or not, Highlander II is a more respectful sequel than any of the others. It may not respect the wishes of the audience, or the parameters of good scriptwriting, but it does respect the ending of Highlander. ;)

No it doesn't. They're all aliens from the planet Zeist? GTFOOH with that crap.

I don’t know how this will go. I think the original is arguably one of the best bad movies ever made. I saw it at aged 14 and at that age, it ticks the bill to be one of the most entertaining films you’ve ever seen. I still really love it and part of its charm is the audacity of calling it Highlander, casting the world’s most famous Scotsman but having him play, not the title role, but an Egyptian with a Spanish name, opposite a Frenchman as said Highlander.

You’re never going to recreate the lunacy of that casting, so I sort of wish they’d cast a young, up and coming Scottish actor in the lead. I like Cavill fine but while I’m sure he can probably do a decent Scottish accent, I do wonder if he’s too long in the tooth to play an immortal, if they’re thinking of making it a series.

Ultimately, as someone who loves the origami but has made a point of never watching the sequels or tv show, if this is great, all the better, but if it’s crap, I’m no worse off, it won’t take away my enjoyment of Mulcahy’s camp classic.

I'm still not convinced it will happen. They have been talking about it ever since the proposed trilogy starting with the source never happened.

I actually think highlander 3 respects the original as it does at least try and explain why it seemed connor was the last immortal.

The series I loved and enjoyed endgame as a sequel to the series rather than the movies.

I so wanted the source to be good, we don't often get what want though.

In Highlander II, all the events of the first movie still happened. Every other sequel changes something that has been established in a previous film. (Some would say for the better, but that's not the point i was making.) As I said, it doesn't respect the audience's wishes, or good scriptwriting, but it does respect the ending of Highlander. And then I winked, indicating I'm not 100% serious. I also never said it was a good movie.
