Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near you.

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

It does, actually.

But really, at the same time, it looks like something kids would have a ball watching. And that's who it's aimed at. I'd have no problem taking my nephews to see this.

Some of my friends saw this and instantly reacted badly, but I watched it and was impressed by the fidelity to the source material, down to how the characters looked. No "hip" reimaginings or anything, just a bear with a tie and a hat and a smaller bear having adventures in a park. Good, clean fun and I hope kids enjoy it.

It actually does look like fun. I might see this. :D

What do you think about the voices? Until now, I've only heard the dubbed version of the cartoon (yeah, we have dubbed Yogi cartoons here :D), and they sounded pretty close to what I'm accustomed, but I have no idea about the original version.

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

I would say it's very close to the original. I immediately applied Yogi's voice to Yogi himself, and the Boo Boo by Mr. Timberlake was a very close approximation. In other words, satisfyingly close enough. :)

The voices are almost identical. I'm surprised Akaroyd still has it in him to actually be funny.

YouTube has tons of old Yogi Bear cartoons, if you want to compare Dan Aykroyd's Yogi and Justin Timberlake's Boo Boo to Daws Butler's original voices.

YouTube Yogi Bear cartoon

Frankly, even as a child, I was never a big fan of Hanna-Barbera cartoons. The jerky, made-for-TV animation looked cheap and the characterizations were weak. Instead of real personalities, Hanna-Barbera's characters had catchphrases, like:

“Yabba dabba doo!”
“Smarter than the average bear!”
“I hate meeces to pieces!”
“Exit, stage right!”
“Oh, me. Oh, my.”

Lots of catchphrases.

Now, Warner Brothers, on the other hand -- those guys knew how to make cartoons.

I've always thought he was funny, I'm surprised he has it in him to sound so unlike himself.

He has a distinctive voice.

I may regret saying this, but it looks pretty funny.

It does looking interesting. An Akroyd as Yogi is brilliant but, at the same time, I wish it didn't sound like he was "trying so hard" to do the Yogi-voice. And, of course, it's in 3D. Becuase Avatar did so great in 3D every movie has to do it now to try and make $2B at the box office.

Hm, Timberlake sounds like a younger version of Moleman from the Simpsons.

Agreed on both counts. I kept listening for Dan's voice, to pick it out, and while I did, I only did so because I knew he was the voice of Yogi. If I wouldn't have known, I'd have never figured out it was Aykroyd.

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

I dunno. Not completely sold on Yogi's voice. I think Dan's "normal" voice would've be sufficent. In the trailer Yogi's voice sounds too much like Dave Coulier's attempts at being "funny" on Full House.

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

I would watch it if it was on free tv. :)

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

Does every kids trailer have to have a "pan/shovel/sign/etc smack in the face" gag? Still, despite a bit of uncanny valley uneasiness, it doesn't look particularly objectionable (surprisingly).

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

I love that they're not doing a 'fish out of water' thing like they usually do with these cartoons. This is just the cartoon...but real. Simple.

It's always hard to tell from the trailers, but I've got a good feeling about this one.

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

^ Yeah, like "Yogi Goes To New York".

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

"Hey-ey-ey, what's with the pepper spray? I just want your pic-a-nic basket, shee-eeesh."

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

Timberlake's Boo Boo is perfect. Akroyd's Yogi is ... not. There's just something "off" in the voice. It's not that he sounds like Dan Akroyd, but he doesn't sound like Yogi to me either.

Funny little bit of trivia - in the Hey There, It's Yogi Bear! movie, Yogi's singing voice was done by James Darren, a.k.a. Vic Fontaine. :D

Re: Hide your picinic baskets Yogi Bear is comming to a theatre near y

First Murray as Garfield. Next in line, Harold Ramis as Droopy Dog and Ernie Hudson as Top Cat...
