Hey what would happen if you fired at the engines?

What would happen if you had a large, and capable enough ship and fired weapons at the glowing engines on the back of a star destroyer? Would that do any kind of damage?

The lights would go out on Deck 12 and none of the blenders would work for the Pina Coladas.
Which would piss off the hangar deck mechanics, as Pina Coladas are how they reward themselves on weekends. Now they just have to go back distilled engine juice like typical mechanics.

But seriously. You know what weapons do, right? (damage things) And You know what the engines do? (make things go)

So, the weapons will damage the engines and the Star Destroyer will no longer be able to go.

Oh hehe ........

I was thinking hitting the engines would cause some kind of chain reaction.

Not much apparently. A Republic fleet of three Star Destroyers continuously fired at the stern of a Separatist super ship for what seemed like hours and didn't do much more than break the hyperdrive, which might have been broken from the exploding superweapon caused by the Y-wings instead. The realspace engines were fine it seemed. Even with fire and smoke trailing the ship.

In the Clone Wars storyline where Cad Bane steals the Jedi Holocron, I believe, there's a scene where his pursuers target his hyperdrive to keep him from leaving the system. This entails shooting at the outer rim of one of the big exhaust cones on the ship's rear until it blows up.
