Hey what do you think should be on the movie soundtrack

We should get two soundtrack albums. One for the great unwashed consisting of "songs from and inspired by" the movie. The other containing at least an hour of Michael Giacchino's orchestral score.

I hope it doesn't take as long to get Giacchino's music released on CD as it did for Steve Jablonsky's Transformers score...

I'd love for this to show up somewhere, maybe end credits.

Yes, the overly dramatic, heart stomping, serious and overblown over the top shit. Berman wouldn't allow it. and what is this nonsense about no tunes in trek background music. I want music that could stand on its own that I can listen to and appreciate later.

Um... ok. It's has just as much merit as any Trek themes or music.
Honestly I didn't actually think it would be in Trek, just a fantasy(like most of this thread infact) of something that would sound kinda cool along side Starships and spacebattles. I listen to it all the time on it's own. Has a very epic and sometimes chilling sound to it. Just because you can't appreciate it you don't need to bash it.

And wtf does Berman have to do with it? He thankfuly has nothing to do with this film.

Thank god Berman doesn't have anything to do with this shit then, because he loathed music that sounded like something. Trust me, he would have thumbs-downed the TMP and TWOK scores for being "too distracting". That's why Berman-era Trek shows had bland orchestral static in the background.

I agree that GoW is far FAR from the sound we would want in the soundtrack though.

Ok. Fine. It's meant for a different setting. But I still feel it's far better sounding than Trek's soundtrack lately.

I just hope the soundtrack for Star Trek is half as good as GoW's for making the themes and characters just seem...
larger than life.

Jablonsky writes really boring music

*sigh*

I should have just kept listening to it on my own... :shifty:

(considering the source-material that's quite a feat.)

... complimentary statement bout GoW? :)

No. :) I don't know the game.
It was a reference to Jablonsky's involvement with Hans Zimmer. :)

Ah ok, thought you were refering to the game when you mentioned
the source material. Is all cool.

I think Xortex's point was that Berman-Era Trek as a whole tended to have pretty boring music, to the point where boring music would be a staple of Trek. Much of that stems from Berman hampering Trek composers, asking them to continuously tone down their arrangements and reduce excitement, because Berman thought music was a necessary evil.

To have pulse-pounding, almost-too-epic orchestral music in a Trek movie would be a treat to hear, especially after years of ho-hum blah-blah music (the mediocre score for "Sacrifice of Angels" comes to mind).
