hey rockman didn't look too bad!

Yeah, looks better than some of the grainy test pics I've seen. Still... I'm not convinced it would've made a good film villain. It looks to me to be more suited to the small screen.

What they really needed was rock men ON FIRE!

No? Not even a little bit? Oh :(

 Oh ya FLAMING ROCK-MEN :guffaw:would have made Star trek 5 the final TURDtier a LOT better:rolleyes:

I wonder if Paramount still has the suit, or maybe they sold it to Roger Corman for his unreleased Fantastic Four adaptation? :p

Wow.....that's a lot better than everyone would have had us believe.... throw in some smoke to blur things up and that thing's sci-fi movie gold!:)

HAW HA HA:guffaw:Now THAT is funny! And no, I have seen shots of the horror that was the THING costume( not too bad..) but I have also seen the even GREATER horror that was the Rockman suit:eek:. They are not the same. ( And yes I know cardinal was joking, but I could not stop myself from showing off my NERD KNOWLEDGE:lol:

Looks good to me, but to be fair there's a big difference between looking good on a youtube video and looking good in a movie theater.

That...looks totally fine. I'm surprised. Certainly doesn't look any worse than plenty of other makeup effects and full-body costumes that did end up on-screen at one time or another.

Yeah, somebody mentioned it could have passed as the Thing....

Man, even TODAY that would still be a great costume!

Not a thing wrong with the suit for it's time.

However, were Shatner given the chance to redo the visuals for a director's cut, I think CGI is the only way to go for any rockman redux.

Properly lit and enhanced with some clever compositing and that might well have worked just fine. It would certainly be difficult for it to actually HARM the movie they ended up releasing.

Sweet! I wish that had made it into the movie. Would have made suffering through STV worthwile, maybe.

The problem with the Rockman is that from a narrative standpoint he's an anticlimax. I mean, the Enterprise blows up this God thing that zaps Kirk and Spock and Sybok sacrifices himself to, so you go from the big powerful looking thing to one or more gargoyles to chase Kirk around until the Klingons save him? Think of it from an audience POV. You blow up the glowing God and then there's a rock guy chasing Kirk. What does one have to do with the other? Sure, if you change the script to reveal that THIS is the true form of the God-pretender, or that a bunch of them together created the image of God as a ruse, then you've got some reason for them, but as is they're pointless tack-ons. At least the glowing head chasing Kirk is clearly the same entity, stupid looking as it is.

Well, I don't think that thing looks quite movie-worthy, even for 1989, but I agree that it looks a heck of a lot better than what I had expected, considering what we had heard about it. Bearing in mind the effects from the rest of the film, I suppose the rockmonster looked above-par.
And yes I know cardinal was joking...
Too bad you didn't notice that jongredic was also joking.
