Hey, men! Want a long, happy marriage? Get a clever young bride!

I can totally believe this study.

I've given up on finding someone who's outright, obviously smarter than me though. So I'm currently looking for someone who's differently smart instead.

Meh. This is nothing new. I remember when I got shit back in Highschool by the resident Fem-Nazis because I said that relationships are best when the guy is around ten years older than the woman.

You spend any time around the retirees in Old age homes an you find that all the people who have been married for over 40 years stack up that way. The longest marriages tend to be between men and women where the man was 10 to 15 years older.

mr trampledamage (currently masquerading as mr Elephants Graveyard) sent this to me with the message "well, we're doing something right" :)

I'm smart and almost 4 years younger than my husband. I was 21 when we met and we're still together now I'm 43. I'd say that's an equation that works!

I'm not sure intelligence is a factor here.

I think you misunderstand. "Smarter" is really too generic a term for what I'm trying to say; I'm referring to capability in my particular area of strength, which is computer science. There are few enough women in the field to begin with. I've met some of the smarter ones, and at the graduate level, it's fairly difficult to tell relative intelligence apart----everyone's just really smart.

Well last time I dated a girl five years younger it really didn't turn out too well.

But hey, seeing as I'm older and 20 is my lower limit these days, I'm totally willing to give the theory a go. Lords knows I need a girl that's smarter then me, my stupid periods are more and more frequent it seems.

If by "British" you mean "Bostonian," and by "early 30s" you mean "pushing 50" then you've found your soul mate.

^

I've always advocated the need to marry a smart mate. I mean, how are you going to ward off Alzheimer's if you aren't constantly challenging the gray matter? (shut up, Holdfast :p )
