Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDANCE!

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Is the entity on the Ascendance cover the
creature that attacked Odo ?

Interesting thought. I suppose it's possible, but I'd been assuming that plot thread was something to be picked up in novels set after The Fall novels and Sacrifices of Fire.

I guess we'll find out in late December!

Since the new station is on the cover, a portion of this novel at least will be set in that time frame.

Indeed, I would guess this novel will likely be set up in a similar manner to Revelation and Dust and Sacraments of Fire, alternating chapters set in the "main" part of the continuity on the new station and the main characters with their storylines, and every other chapter focusing on Kira, Taran'atar and their storyline involving the old station.

That would make sense, too.

I guess from the title I've just been assuming this one would focus on the Ascendants story line, leaving the other threads from Sacraments of Fire to be picked up in later novels. That doesn't take into account the new station appearing on the cover, of course, but it wouldn't be the first time the cover art hasn't matched up with the story inside.

So, got email from BD saying this was on its way to them!

Might have it sooner than expected!

There is an excerpt on S&S and Amazon, but only "Prologue: Flight" at the time I posted this.

As has mine!

Time to read the duo!

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Given the shite that was the last book, I do not plan on reading this one, I may have a gander at the cliff notes on memory beta though at some stage.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

When you say "last book" to which are you referring? And perhaps some detail as to why you thought it was "shite" would give you a bit more credibility.

Is there any book that it would make sense to describe as the "last book" in this context other than Sacraments? I mean, it's literally in the thread title.

I thought it best to avoid making assumptions.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Also, there's no requirement that anyone has to back up their opinions - if Dimesdan wants to say he's not reading Ascendance because he thought Sacraments was bad, that's entirely his opinion and he's allowed to share it as is.

Obviously. Doesn't mean I can't ask.

Picked this up tonight when I was supposed to be Christmas shopping for others! ;) Sadly, I probably won't have time to start it until sometime next week.

Dimesdan's comments in the Sacraments review thread, which you could have found with no problems if you were really curious and not just doing some drive by shooting at Dimesdan:

I'm finding this a very slow read almost boring read, about thirty pages in and the last few have just been one massive un-needed info dump about Odo!

So I'm about a third of the way through, I'm not enjoying it and getting zero satisfaction from what is happening and put it aside. I may pick it up again, but to be honest, I doubt I will.

Taran'atar was introduced nearly fifteen years ago, so it's entirely possible some readers might have forgotten or not know at all about the ketracel-white.

And mentioning it once would make sense, mentioning thrice in four pages does not. - It's just a way to just up the word count with pointless recapping.

My copy is still on the bookshelf where I left it and have no intention of picking it up again.

I really should of sent it back to Amazon and got my money back.

Thank you for assuming good faith. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
