Hero Ship Destruction Scenes - Ranked

From worst-to-best:

4. The Destruction of the Enterprise-D. Don't need to explain that one.

3. The Destruction of the Kelvin Enterprise. Nothing wrong with it, but I wasn't attached to this ship and all I could think was "that looks cool!" That's my baseline. I enjoyed watching it be destroyed, but no emotional impact. From here on out, there's an impact.

2. The Destruction of the Defiant. They set that up pretty well in advance, the scene stings while you're watching it, and -- unlike a certain other ship -- lost to superior foe.

1. The Destruction of the Refit Enterprise. Don't need to explain this one either.

Looks like I agree with the OP.

Going with just enterprises for now.
Best:
ST 3 Refit, gut wrencher .. 20 years of life go boom. It was a character unto itself.

Now goes to irritating.
Generations. Killed it to make way for a new movie enterprise, which was wrong, she looked great on the big screen, 6 ft model refurbished. That and taken out bit a flea.. And riker doing nothing..

ST beyond. This one REALLY irritated me, saw it happen in the trailers. Irritated because even in the previous movies that she just gets the shit kicked out of her and 3 just put her out her misery. AND they redesigned it in 3 with a thinner neck and pylons.. Ugh.. Looked cool but pissed me off.

USS Kelvin - ST09.
Whether one considers it a hero ship or not
Ide like to see someone tell him to his face that it's not a hero ship

Well, the destruction of the D may have been unnecessary (and I'm on record about my dislike of the E as its replacement - not as a design itself, but because it visually has so little to do with the D), but that crash sequence is one of my favorites in all of ST just on spectacle alone. The destruction of the 1701 was more meaningfully handled, Defiant's was shocking, and the Beyond thing just produced a groan from me: I felt it was gimmicky and over-the-top.

I don't dispute that it is a spectacle in itself, but it was done just for the sake of trashing the ship. I could see the Duras supporters looking up to Lursa and B'tor as martyrs for helping bring down the Federation flagship, not to mention it being one EMBARASSING incident to Starfleet. Heads should have rolled, and maybe they did.
