Unlike with people who have actually been raped, there is little reluctance on the part of people who claim to have had their childhood raped by a television show or movie to come forward and confront the aggressor, despite the stigma. This is unfortunate, and should be reversed if at all possible.

Because you've done nothing about trolls and flames when they come from people who obviously fully support the movie, and jump on pretty much anything remotely negative from critics of the movie. Like all the attention you're heaping on me, for instance, despite the many trolls and flames directed at me.

Wrong. What frustrates me about this movie is that it is canon, just like TATV, Threshold, and every other brain fart that's made it on screen. If it didn't matter, there would be no point in getting upset.
No, the trolling and flaming comes from calling critics of the movie "Fundamentalists", "zealots", "bashers", or anything along those lines, or for that matter suggesting all critics are alike and just a bunch of stereotypical basement nerds or what have you.

Agreed. It's particularly obvious when you look at the name of this thread that it is designed to inflame certain passions.
Besides Plumster, I'm not really sure what your argument is. The botanical garden windows didn't appear until the refit, so in fact their absence lends a greater air of canonicity to the movie.

This coming from the guy who started the "Star Trek Fundamentalism" thread.It's the fact that this movie, being official movie product type stuff WILL be "canon", whether we like it or not that causes some of us to get riled up.
I love Cawley's "New Voyages" etc, because it ISN'T canon, therefore it is just an entertaining Trek related fanpic, albeit one of unusually fine caliber.
The worst thing I can see coming from this film is that we will be stuck with more movies with this alternate cast and this whole NuCanon will come wallowing in to bulldoze away a whole lot of what I've always enjoyed about Star Trek. I don't want NuCanon. I don't want NuCrew. I'd rather have had something fresh than have to sit and watch the best of Trek get repaved.
I am going to vote with my wallet. I won't pay to see this film. I won't buy the DVD--or even rent it. I will not buy any merchandise related to it. Hell, I won't even touch the Countdown comic tie in, despite some interesting bits and good reviews.

No sir. It is quite possible to discern whether or not one will like a film without necessarily seeing it. Besides, even though I won't be in the audience, I never said that I wouldn't read the spoilers and reviews and various postings. I expect to be fairly well informed concerning the Abomination.
You may, however, still tell me to "shove it", if that is the level of discourse you find most satisfying.
No, it's not a matter of "if you want to see the film or not". It's a matter of you going "oh noes, this is NuCanon nonsense!!" without having seen the film. Without being able to see the execution, the performances, all of it, your opinion would be less than valid if at all. All you would be going off of would be "reviews" i.e. other people's opinions. And with such ridiculous hyperbolic language like "Abomination", you've obviously shown you are determined to be blinded by your own obnoxious form of "fandom" and refuse to actually form a real opinion by seeing it.
There's nothing wrong with not seeing it. There is something wrong with making grandiose claims about it without a valid opinion.
