Hereditary

Has anyone seen this film? I am watching it on Amazon Prime and was surprised not to be able to find a thread on it. I am only half through the movie and I'm not even sure it even fits in this forum yet, but it is one of the most intense horror movies I've seen in many years.

If a movie about a cult which worships a real demon doesn't count as fantasy, I don't know what does. Of course, using a fantasy mode isn't really the same as being "a" fantasy. Hereditary is a horror story.

It seemed to me there were very interesting aspects of Hereditary well worth discussion. But I don't recall much, if any, in-depth discussion. I bought the DVD for good reason.

It was certainly intense through to the end. I am wanting to go back and re-watch it, or parts of it at least. There are hints and clues throughout that I didn't really connect until the end. The strength of the film is really in the acting. Toni Collette and Alex Wolff both do outstanding jobs. The daughter is certainly creepy as well. There is plenty of shock value with very few obvious effects shots.

I didn't really know anything about this before going in so it was a huge shock to me that the daughter was killed so early in the movie. The way it was handled was so disturbing I had to pause the movie and take a break. Then it seemed like this was just a psychological thriller until the seance seen when the glass moved. That was the first indication for me that there was definitely a supernatural element to the movie, rather than just being a psychological thriller.
