Here it is: The Enterprise with Wings

This is Enterprise with wings.
The refit of the original Enterprise for Phase II.
designer Ralph McQuarrie, best known to the public for his designers for the Star Wars films.

^ That ship has the exact opposite problem that the Enterprise-D did. Whereas the Ent-D had a ridiculously huge saucer and a small-to-insignificant secondary hull, that ship has just the opposite: tiny saucer, bloated secondary hull.

I would love the Enterprise with wings. And those little tiny drumsticks, too. With Texas Pete's sauce, or cholulo. No blue cheese, though.

Didn't Vektor, at one point while working on his NX-01 concepts, produce a ship with small 'wings' on the nacelle struts.

You mean this one?

This was a still untextured revamp of the original version from a couple of years earlier, which looked like this:

Gonna have to finish that thing one of these days. ;)

Not to be crude, but every time I see this thread title, I think of the ad slogan for a certain, err, feminine hygiene product that was "It's got wings!" Anybody else thinking that, or is it just my warped mind?

Yes, that's the one that made us all have a mancrush on you and your work. :D

You should do an evolution from that era to the "present" day with that design.

Has it been determined where this sure-to-be-infamous "Enterprise with wings" rumor came from? Did Custer make it up out of whole cloth, or what?

Count me among the 'crude' I suppose... "The Darn Thing Has Wings!" was the slogan i believe. Wish I could insert a picture of it, lol.

Based on all the sources I've found, I'm nearly positive it's a Custer fantasy.

no, sadly it's true. A friend I have at ILM leaked this to me:

This movie will FAIL!

Yikes!

I'd say that's definately a "bone-afide" image.

What do you mean "fail"?!? That Enterprise is far more than I had been hoping for! It makes the original Enterprise look like a cheap model hung on strings!

Here are some images of a mesh based on one of the study models for the "McQuarrie Enterprise":

I think it's pretty cool - I've always liked this design, though I really prefer the early concept art to the study models - the smaller saucer and the nacelles extending forward rather than back off of their pylons.

It looks a lot like the Enterprise-D design could've evolved from it.
