I honestly don't know what to think. My first reaction was WTF?
I've been looking at the Picture on my Cell phone all day and I feel a little disappointed. It looks a bit too TMP. Actually it's a bit of a mash been the TOS Enterprise and TMP Enterprise with a futuristic fast car streamline effect to it. While I didn't fancy Gabe Koerner's design I'd rather have seen the Ship keep that Shapely appearance of TOS. Although he is under the Directors Thumb most likely I had expected something more from Ryan Church. Maybe something very different or something that really screams Prequel. But whether it changes or adheres to what came before I felt it did neither.

Frankly I think it's a shame we can't see this beautiful ship on the big screen. http://coromandal.files.wordpress.c...hasers_freecomputerdesktop_wallpaper_1024.jpg

I think it's going to be a nice ship when we see it in motion and action.

I wasn't too possitive first time I saw it but a few hours and 18 pages later it has grown on me.

Bring it on...

http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/200...k': An exclusive first look at the Enterprise
It has to be said: What an ugly piece of shit! Look what they've done to our beautiful lady. Matt Jefferies is hanging his head in disgust somewhere up there.

And reading those spoilers of scenes and indications of characterization nails it that this has zero to do with our beloved TOS. To which I am eternally grateful to the Lord Almighty.

You know what? I'm sick to death of Trek being done by people who know the "feel" of it.

All that results in is recycled, rehashed pabulum that all looks and feels the same even when its ostensibly doing something new. All the proposed fan designs I've seen share that flaw: they're too conservative. They take the shape and proportions of the original, bolt some new details on it, and call it an update. What that seems to say fans want is...timidity. Trek needs fresh ideas and a willingness to take the good, toss out the rest, and come up with new stories and new designs that work on their own without slavish reference to what came before.

Paramount paid for a professional designer to come in and overhaul the Enterprise, and that's exactly what they got. More power to 'em. :techman:
Amen to all of that. I could not have said it better. Thank you, Gep. :techman:

It doesn't even look like they let Pimp My Ride have a go at it.

It looks like they had Pimp My Ride UK have a go at it. Ugh, the more I look at it the more wrong it looks.

When I first saw this yesterday, it was a bit of a shock. But it's grown on me very quickly. I didn't expect these guys to throw up the old '60s aesthetic on the big screen. After some consideration, I think it's one of the nicer Enterprise designs.

It lacks any of the grace of the original and even more with the refit. It just looks so over worked and ridiculous. The nacelles are so ugly. There is no flow to the bottom of the ship at all! Yuck!!

Looking at it with the other ships...hmmmm...it'll grow on me I guess...:vulcan:

Yea, I wasn't super sold on it till I saw this pick, with the three all sort of back to back.

Now I think it is great. It stays faithful to the core concept of Jefferies design, yet boldly addresses some of the weaknesses in both the origional and refit enterprises.

Everyone seems to hate the neck between the Primary and secondary Hull, when in reality it is far more realisitic than either the Origional or Movie version. I always thought the neck of the origional was too flimsy to support the mass of the Saucer Section at high warp.

I also like the decreased emphasis of the Secondary hull. You can see the influence of the D there. Most of the stuff happens in the Primary Hull, that is where the emphasis should be IMO.

I am really looking forward to seeing her on the Big Screen...

It's not the neck itself that bothers me. That's just fine in my book. It's that the entire engineering hull has been pushed forward too much. The nacelles are in the right place in regards to the saucer, but the secondary hull needs to just be pushed back, including leaving more space behind the support pylons for the nacelles and the shuttle bay.

Thinking about it now, it looks like the love child of the original and refit enterprise!

I have mixed feelings, im sure it will grow on me in the end. Im sure i seen a top view of the ship on one of the bridge pics, when i first seen it i was thinking it was my brain playing tricks but hell no it aint i'll look for the pic now and post!

Wow. I thought that when the first picture of the Enterprise came out, the posts would be gushing and glowing with praise. The reaction here, and not just from the ususal suspects (detractors) is decidedly mixed. And that might be kind. I supposed that even detractors would admit it was a good design, left merely to criticize the need for it in the first place.

I gotta say that after sleeping on it, the more I see it, the more I go off it. It is not growing on me like I hoped it would.
From a practical point of view, maybe most action should take place in the saucer, creating less need for a large secondary hull. But as a design scheme, the larger secondary hull balances the look of the ship. I just looked at some beauty shots and a profile of the Enterprise-D, the secondary hull is more in proportion with the saucer than this E's is. Same on Enterprise-E.

Like others have said, I can see now that it looks like different styles stuck together. And, upon further review, it is over-designed in 1950s car styles. Perhaps if it were painted coral -- .

Oh, well. As in TVH Kirk said, "A ship is a ship."

Also, doesn't it seem odd that this is how we get our first glimpse of the Enterprise? Wouldn't one have expected a grander unveiling? That's weird, too.

I think it's obvious that Abrams is doing a reboot but only a visual reboot. I imagine the cannon story wise will remain largely the same. I don't think he's just rebooting the tos era either. I imagine if Abrams were to do a TNG movie after this one it would look just as different(hopefully he wouldn't remain true to those awful uniforms they had in the first 2 seasons).

As far as the Enterprise redesign goes I love it. It still remains true to the original in it's basic shape and its' exterior is still smooth and simple like the original. I was really afraid that they were going to TNG-ize the Enterprise with tons of ridges, huge lights and bumps and etc.

That is the most horrid little POS I've ever seen, I've found retarded fan doodles that look far better. :wtf:
