All I can say is this, she is growing on me. And I have done a few quick doodles of a side view based on this photo, and the proportions, from I can judge, aren't bad.

I tried the same thing, and you're right. The profile when you draw it out actually looks pretty good.

The tapered nacelles and curved struts really balance out the design, so you don't really notice the secondary hull sticking forward so much.

As a designer... I do not like it. If this was a New Trek movie with a new crew..I would ok with. It could have been set in TMP Era..It would fit as a new ship, but why make a movie and call it a TOS Movie and change everything that fans loved about TOS trek?

On top of that, make it hard for fans to try to fit it in the cannon of the series. I see it hard to have this ship be refit to the REAL TOS Ship.

I am sorry, As a fan of all the movies and series, I will not pay to see this movie, I respect all the other people who will, but again as a fan for all of my life, I had to say something.

So you think this design is less valid than something built 40 years ago with the cheapest materials GR and company could find. The TV version of the ship looked like it did because that was what they could afford. Now I'm not trying to sound like a broken record here but it's a solid design it envokes the TOS Enterprise, it looks a HELL of alot better than the model from the sixties and anyone expecting the ship to look like it did on tv is just fooling themselves. Period.

Here is a version that a fan made that gave it a update in more details on the ship, but also kept the TOS true. I am saying don't make a movie and call it TOS Movie and not keep true to it. I am all for a star trek movie, and they have tons of Trek history to play with. You can set this ship in a few years after TMP or Star Trek 6 with a new crew. You could have kept spock in the movie..etc but why remake something we love and make it hard to have it fit with TOS.

And having dealt with fan art of different fandoms before (I'm a colorist of transformer art.) I can say it looks very FAN MADE.. While the one for the movie looks like they took thought in what a real starship might look like.

They took the profile and made it sleeker while still making the new pylons wider so they look like they will support the forces put on them by the Nacelles as they generate a warp field. The saucer looks bigger which makes sense since that was where most of the crew were. The engineering section looks sleeker and a bit cut back once again for a better battle profile should it need to fight. TOS Enterprise no matter how much I love it looked bad, not bad in a We don't care way but it looked like something that could get blown apart very easily. It had much to large a profile for battle and as I've said before the Pylons looked thin and fragile.

But that's just my observations of somoene who's also drawn plenty of Trek ships himself. OF course I thought the Enterprise D was the best design ever, from the moment I saw it.

As a designer, I think this will do fine. It's a lot better than the Enterprise-E. I'd like to see a comparison pic with the NX-01 to see if there is an obvious evolution anywhere. I'd also like to hear an opinion from uber-designers Mr. Probert and Mr. Sternbach, if they are lurking about. I know that both are too gentlemanly to be outright critical, but a designers impression would be much appreciated from both.

I can't say that I'm terribly excited about this particular design; some individual parts look interesting, but it doesn't work for me as a whole. Plus the fact that the Bussard collectors (if indeed the new designers knew how they're supposed to work) don't have a clear line of sight to open space would seem to screw up that part of the ship. What suddenly hits me about this ship is the potentially weird and bizarre and crazy left-field thought that because of some timeline manipulation in the film, this is the Enterprise for a good portion of the story, and when everything is set straight, the crew is back on the good old light/medium gray TOS Enterprise, on the good old familiar black/gray/red bridge, and JJ will have toyed with us the whole time. Would make for a nice surprise, no?

Again the point I was making was Why make a TOS Move, make a new Scifi Movie and call it Star Trek. The photo I posted is an example on how to update the Ship and keep it in TOS Ship look. The movie is a 150 Million dollar movie, someone could have design the ship, better to fit in the TOS.

I have been very open and waited and waited. I was not one of the people who said that I hated JJ or this movie, I wanted to see a TOS Movie. I hoped that this would be, I see very little to call this a TOS Movie. I am sorry that this make some people mad, but As a fan of TOS, the movie and other series. I can't call this a TOS Movie. If people want to go see it, hey go and enjoy it and have fun..

One note the purpose of the ship was to explore space, that what she was design for.

Well, screwing with our heads is JJ's modus operandi, but I'm waiting to see it from schematic views. Something about the perspective seems off, like the proportions don't match the straight-on shot we saw in the teaser trailer.

Those nacelles are MUCH better than what I've sene hypothesized. Wish that engineering hull was thicker much further back than what it is.
