Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler contet)

VOODOOXI

About a week or so ago a story was picked up on various Star Trek sites (I think the story originated at Screenrant.com or UGO.com) that someone had access to the script of Star Trek XI.

Among other things the story included these rumors.
* The story includes time travel
* Alternate time lines
* Some of the story takes place in the TNG era
* A version of the Enterprise exists that will show the ship to be an all out battleship.
* Klingons will be involved.
* A Picard family member is mentioned.

The original author of the story did mention that he was not going to mention one "whopper of a spoiler" that he had access to because he did not want to ruin the surprise for us.

Here are my best guesses (strictly guesses)at what the major spoiler may be.

1/ All of Star Trek history is wiped out. The actions of Nero + Spock whatever they may be erase all of ST history.

2/ William Shatner is the surprise ending + the creative team does not want to give that away.

3/ Spock (Nimoy's version) dies

4/ Patrick Stewart or someone else of note from the TNG cast has a role.

5/ From this point forward everything takes place in an alternate universe which would allow what we have known for the last 40 years to stand. Thus, Kirk would not be dead in the future. Nor would his or any other characters survival be a sure thing.

6/ A major character (Scotty,Sulu..etc) is killed off (alt time line) to keep us on our toes and to make sure we understand this is not our fathers Star Trek,

Anybody have an idea what this big spoiler may be?

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Old Spock dying has been discussed at length, and is the only one that shows any modicum of dignity or restraint by the production.

Arlo:

You may be correct, but that would be such a downer. Who wants to go to yet another Star Trek funeral?

I tend to think that Spock will make it out of the film alive + well, but you never know.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

I think the most likely event is Old Spock's (final) death.

OT: And FFS I hope some asshole doesn't find out what the spoiler is and come on here to post "ZOMFG OLD SPOCK TEH DIES!!!1!!1"

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

None of these sound like the kind of big spoiler that would get someone like the Screenrant editor so excited in a positive way that he'd want to keep it secret for the enjoyment of the audience.

As with all character deaths, it depends on how it's played. Spock's death in TWOK was great (despite the immediate reset button in the next film). Kirk's ultimate death in GEN could have been better, and Data's death in NEM was just piss-poor.

Since the producers, writers, and director on this film are all new to Trek, I say we give them the benefit of the doubt and let them actually fuck up before suggesting that they've done so.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

The Enterprise uncovers the secret of the Cloverfield monster, retroactively making this film a sequel to Cloverfield and Cloverfield a Star Trek film.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

I agree with Polaris that the surprise must be of some monumental status that Vic form Screenrant would have admitted to knowing it and then subsequently withheld the pivotal info. Is it possible that the net gods at AICN, CHUD, IESB, SCREENRANT, TREKMOVIE, etc. all have knowledge of this info and are just sitting on it? Does JJ have that kind of pull with these guys or are they in the dark like us?

Nobody lives forever. Not even Spock.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Spock should die. That way, Shatner can bellyache about Spock getting 2 great death scenes when Kirk just got 1 shitty one.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Kirk gets resurrected and he and Spcok go into the Nexus

Cardinal Biggles:

Where did I say I thought they were going to fuck up? On the contrary I like every single decision that they have made public to this point with the one exception of not having Shatner in the film.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

sounds lie a lot of hooey to me, but I do think Old Spock will finally die for realz this time

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Well whatever it is, it has to be so big as to be completely out in left field. Spock dies isn't, nor is Shatner -- as evidenced by the fact that we came up with these before screenrant got the script.

One that might fill the bill is that Spock ends up having to kill one of the young cast for some reason. Abrams did say that anyone in the Abramsverse could die, so it seems like one of them could easily be killed in the movie. But what would make this come out of left field would be Old Spock as the murderer. Especially if it's someone that he cares about deeply.

Now the other idea -- and I have no evidence for this one whatsoever -- is the notion that at least part of our time travel would include a visit to say 1965, and thus making the making of trek part of trek. The thought gives me a headache, but that may make a great WTF moment, as well as a tribute and a wink at the uberhardcores who think Trek is real.

The ones listed by OP just aren't WEIRD enough to make people keep a secret. Shatner being in it isn't because there are a lot of people expecting it. Personally I expect my first guess, though I think the second one would be really cool.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Maybe Old Spock dies and puts his katra into his younger self...

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Ah, the mere mention of the nexus would be a deal breaker for me or anything to do with post TOS, sorry.

Ah, but we already know the secret of the "Cloverfield" monster(s)... it's also the "secret ingredient" in the new Slusho beverage... ;)

(I'm actually not kidding... Abrams did a "viral marketing" thing for Cloverfield too, and this is one of the more significant websites in that... http://slusho.jp/ ... if you don't mind annoying japanese-style websites, you can pick up some hints at what's REALLY behind Cloverfield starting with this website)

But wouldn't that give Spock two katras? So which one got passed on to McCoy?

Anyway I think we're on the same sort of track ... a timeloop in which a character goes back in time to create the conditions under which the events of Trek will happen thus insuring that Spock goes back in time to make sure the future happens.

Spock ---> Katra to Young Spock ----> gets Old ---> travels through time ---> gives Katra to Young Spock

So it's all fate?

Now there's an interesting thought.

Re: Here is my best guess at the "big spoiler" (spoiler cont

Whatever is going to happen it sounds like it is going to be big, but "big" is strictly in the eye of the beholder.

For example if I found out that Shatner was somehow worked into the ending of the film + Kirk is given a good ending that would be huge. In my eyes it would be the single biggest event that could happen in the Star Trek universe.

On the other hand Shatner's return could mean nothing to another person. Perhaps that person would be more enthusiastic about all of ST's history being wiped out (that would be a pretty big deal)by Nero's actions.

In all depends on who is writing the original article and what they think is important to ST.
