Um NO!!!!!
1) Definite No!!
2) Agreeable
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) Agreeable but not this high up.
6) I would put Steven Tyler around here.
7) Never heard of him so No.
8) No
9) No
10) Ok but more pop than Rock.

Missing from the list in no order are Klaus Meine; Paul Rodgers; Rodger Daltry,

^Do things like this really need to be said in big capital letters? It doesn't make you look intelligent or progressive. It's a British website, of course they're talking about "western" singers. They left out opera singers too, because it's a pop/rock music and equipment website.

Axl Rose was actually an incredible singer with a lot of range when he wanted to have it. Very powerful. I said "was" because his pipes are about 3/4 of what they used to be. Best of all time? No. Probably not even in the top ten.

I'd agree that Mercury, Plant, and Lennon should be in the top ten, but I don't know where.

Colbain had soul but could barely carry a tune, so no.

McCartney was probably a better singer than Lennon. And yeah, he could Rock pretty hard when he wanted. The lines between pop and Rock can get pretty blurry.

Rose, Plant and Mercury are all pretty good.(I'd put Freddie at #1) Cobain is not unlike Lennon in that it's the emotion in his voice and the lyrics that carry the songs. The others I haven't heard enough of to say if they are "Top 10". I do love the Who, so I'm not opposed to seeing Daltry included.

2, 4 & 6 would make my personal top 10. Plus some others that most people will never have heard of.

These lists are stupid, things like this are so subjective to one's tastes. This one should be "top 10 rock vocalists"

Since I'm assuming this is an all male/all rock category...

Kurt Cobain is by far not in the top ten most talented vocalists of rock history. However, Steven Tyler, & Chris Cornell could very well be

I think even "Rock Frontmen" would be more appropriate.

I don't see how anyone could argue that Kurt Cobain was as talented a vocalist as most on that list, although i'd certainly rate him as one of the best frontmen.

Is this the article you're referring to?

It's good to see Geddy Lee on the list, at #19. But then being rated the #2 bassist... that's cool, too. :techman:

But I have to wonder why Ann Wilson isn't on the list of vocalists? I still think she has one of the very best voices in rock history. But then maybe this list is only to cover the harder edged material

Ew, Steven Tyler. Bruce Dickinson has an amazing voice. IMO, deserves to be on the list. Kurt Cobain and Thom Yorke (even though 25% of his name is superfluous) are great frontmen, but not great singers. Matt Bellamy is a Freddie Mercury wannabee with a little bit of Radiohead thrown in. I like him, but I'm not sure I'd put him on the list.

I agree about Daltry. Cornell should be top on the list, though. He could sing a phonebook and it would sound amazing.

On a technical level I think Bellamy and Yorke are both very good singers, Bellamy has a very impressive range and control.

Yorke doesn't show it off much on the recorded material, but if you've ever seen them live, he is a superb performer capable of singing very powerfully and very accurately.

Dude who the frell cares if I look intelligent or progressive? The fact that I am should suffice.

And the point that I made -- in CAPS -- stands.

By the way, the only name in there that belongs in a true "All time best singers of the world" list would be Freddie Mercury. And he was from India.

Tells you something, doesn't it? lol.

Even allowing for this to be properly titled 'top frontmen' I love GnR but no way should Axl be at the top of the list. I like Maiden, but Dickinson in the top 10? No way!

I don't think Paul McCartney has a particularly memorable voice, but you can't take away from his and Lennon's accomplishments.

Mind you, this is reasonably palatable for my tastes compared to many of these types of lists. I'd definitely have Plant, Freddie and Axl in my top 10, with Dio around there somewhere. But no Steve Tyler, Ian Gillan, Paul Rogers, Lynott, Hetfield or Jagger? This merits a 'pshaw.' Pshaw!!!!!

I love Axl Rose, I think he's one of the best frontmen of all time. But there's no way he's above Freddie. If I were to make my own list of favorite frontmen, it would go a little something like this:

1.Freddie Mercury
2.Rob Halford
3.Ronnie James Dio
4.Bruce Dickinson
5.Robert Plant
6.Axl Rose
7.Chuck Billy(Testament)
8.Joey Belladonna(Anthrax)
9. Blackie Lawless(WASP)
10.Phil Anselmo

It's a strange world where screaming and whining passes for singing. Rock and roll isn't exactly known for its great voices to begin with - interesting voices perhaps but not necessarily good ones. Personally I find Axl Rose akin to listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.

No Janis Joplin, no Annie Lennox? Are you kidding me?

Tyler his voice carries the first part of this song.

what he does in the final 27 seconds of this brings it home

Where's Ian Gillan? Seriously, I can't believe how much you guys underrate him. Listen to'Child in Time' again.

And Axl Rose  Not a bad singer but a huge wanker.

When I saw Radiohead live, their music flat out sucks you in. He didn't try to do too much, but it was easily top 5 concerts I've ever been too. But I'd put him on the frontman list, not the singer list.

My personal take:

1. No. His vocals don't appeal to me and I don't rate Guns 'N' Roses.
2. Good singer, but Queen aren't my thing.
3. Probably deserves to be here.
4. Nah - the guy could sing, but the material wasn't up there with the very best, in my opinion.
5. Yes. The Beatles didn't really have a frontman, but those guys sang more great songs than anyone.
6. No. If you must include a metal singer, I'd nominate Rob Halford.
7. Debatable, but he is a great frontman.
8. Not surprised he's here, but wouldn't make my list.
9. No.
10. See 5.

I'm disappointed to see fantastic lead singers like Debbie Harry, Smokey Robinson and Mick Jagger so far down the list. Also, unless I missed something, Phil Lynott wasn't there at all, whereas he'd easily make my top ten.
