Her kids won't wake up for school

I used to be made to go to bed by 9pm until about the age of 14... I used to be up with the birds! Doesn't mean I relished going to school, but I was up nevertheless.

Sort of reminds me of when I was in high school. For pretty much the entire year 11 and 12 I had to have two to three wake up calls in which I'd always say I'm too sick to go to school. Half the time there would be so little time for me to get ready my mum had to make me breakfast otherwise I'd go to school hungry. The problem always came when I actually was sick or injured that I couldn't/shouldn't go to school and then having to catch up. Once my mum actually gave in and that day I was so bored at home that I actually looked forward to going to school the next day. Though it helped that we liked in a rural town/village, where there was nothing to do, the nearest fast food joint was 30km away, the nearest cinema was 80km away and in all likelihood the nearest person who would also be wagging was 30 km away meant really limited your options when not at school.

Looking back on it now I miss those carefree days of school.

Parents who treat their kids like equals, or best pals, are the parents who haver zero control, zero respect, and are the ones with all of the problems with their children. You're either in charge or you're going to get run over.

Yes, because clearly by saying that you should treat you children with some level of respect I'm saying you should betheir best friend and take them out to dinner with you and your friends.

My mom used to threaten to throw water at us when we took our time getting out of bed. And she did if we weren't quick.

Which is why I'm staying at my brother's house next thanksgiving.

My father was an Army Drill instructor and he normally had to be at work at 5:00 am, if we decided not to get out bed at the appropriate time, my father would sometimes force us to get up early and go to work with him until school started at 8:00.

When he didn't want to do that, we were usually restricted to our rooms which meant we weren't allowed to do anything except lay on the bed. For the most part we got up on time.

Internet experts can be funny sometimes.

"It's because there's no father in the house."

"She doesn't discipline them enough."

"It's the moral degredation of society."

Or could it be that it's just because no one likes waking up in the morning?

Of all the issues I could see coming up with parenting, this one seems the most trivial and least worthy of all this overreaction.

Says the person with no experience rearing children

I have plenty of experience recognizing overreaction when I see it.

There´s always the quick option of just dropping a cold wet washcloth directly on their face.

^ Or, even better, put their hand into a bowl of warm water if they go back to sleep. They will wake up or piss themselves and wake up. Either way, they are up. And they may have laundry to do after school too. ;)

Well. Kids need more sleep time than adults. They probably should have the full 8 hours at least.

I used to pull some of that crap, having got away with playing sick a few times. Just need to put the foot down. My Mom started using a thermometer - no fever, no major symptoms, no stay home. It's imporant because you don't want them to grow up to be caller-outers. I was pretty bad in 4th grade, by 5th-6th it was out of my system. And I never use a sick day unless I'm sick.
