Help with my thesis about Star Trek

Max G

Hey y’all, I could use some extra people to take a survey for my thesis. My thesis is centered around the portrayal of settings in fictional futures, and I’m using Star Trek as my case study since I’ve seen most the series and can dissect it better than any other futuristic media I’ve seen. All I would require is for you to answer some questions after viewing three Star Trek episodes that I’ve picked out in relation to my thesis.

Please let me know if you’d like to get in touch with me and participate in my survey!

Thanks in advance,

Max.

I wouldn’t write a thesis about Star Trek; seems a bit un-IDIC coming from a Star Trek fan, as opposed to going out there with an off-the-wall topic.

I hope I’m helping him by pointing out that it looks too easy. If that were my topic (which it wouldn’t be, but say it is), I’d probably go and do something I normally wouldn’t, like looking at fictional futures as portrayed by SF authors I don’t normally read, or the history of futuristic portrayal.

As valuable as that unsolicited advise surely is, you've been warned before about derailing threads with your own agenda.

I suggest you move along.

Maybe I should have waited until the probationary period for new members was over until I posted this because I can't actually dm anyone until I've been a member for two weeks, and I definitely do not want to just post the link and let anyone and their mother spam my survey, so maybe you could like this comment if you've agreed and if I have your permission to contact you via dm (and give more details obviously) in two weeks when the probation is over. I genuinely didn't expect any responses so fast, but I'm really grateful because I only need about 4 more participants at this point (granted that the above commenters still consent in 2 weeks) so this was extremely helpful! Thanks y'all

I'll participate, provided I don't have to surrender any personal info beyond what is available here.

You will not be asked for information, I only ask for "name/username" so I can keep the responses straight in my notes

oh, come on
... People have written theses about children’s books.

I’m not saying the topic isn’t “serious” enough, just not off-the-wall enough for a Star Trek fan.

(And let’s not reply to my posts if I cannot reply back lest I face a thread ban or something for questioning this tightly-focused activity.)

You brought it on yourself, so stop acting like the victim here.

And it’s not your place to judge what people want to write about.

No, I didn’t. If the admin insists on the thread staying focused on the original request, fine, I let it be yesterday already, but it obviously doesn’t mean allowing other people to continue to riff on the same tangent. That’s just taking a beating for daring to point out that a thesis should be as much of a novel experience as possible.

And it’s not your place to judge what people want to write about.

Why not? It’s an opinion on the topic that could just as easily be given by a thesis advisor. If you’re going to spend that much time on a complex piece of writing, best to keep it as interesting and unusual as possible.
