Help with my first convention

Woohoo! My first ever convention! I'm going to the THE SCI-FI SUMMIT 2009: 17TH Annual GRAND SLAM. I just bid on (and won) the meet and greet with Jeri Ryan. I bought my plane tickets (I am flying in from Toronto Canada). Now I just gotta find a cheap place to stay. I have never been to LA before. Anyone have any suggestions? I am not sure what to expect as I have never been to a convention before lol ...If anyone has ANY tips for me I would be ever so grateful! My email is rthibod@hotmail.com or just reply on here.
Thanks

Get there early, and plan to stay late. Bring a lot of spending money. If this is your first con, you'll probably be pretty overwhelmed by the stuff in the dealer room. I would also not buy anything you can get elsewhere. Also, if you want autographs, you have to pay for them. Most people are pretty friendly and open to chatting, so if you're going by yourself, you should still be able to find people to talk with.
When is this convention, anyway? There may even be a TrekBBS meetup you can check into.
Also, bring a camera.
If you can, stay a few days or so longer. There's a lot to see in Los Angeles, and other parts of California if you haven't been here before.
Also, rent a car. LA is not an easy place to get around without one.

Stay away from anyone dressed up like spock with a real black cat on their shoulders..

You know, Toronto has its own perfectly good Sci-Fi convention every summer. I don't know if Jeri Ryan will be there this year, but my point is you didn't need to fly that far to attend a great convention. :)

Man, am I jealous. I have always heard good things about those shows.

Hope you have a good time.

Start thinking now about what you'd like to say to Jeri!

Thanks for all the info guys and gals.. I still haven't booked a place to stay. It seems like there are lots of places around the airport. The SCI-FI SUMMIT 2009: 17TH Annual GRAND SLAM is at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel. I will probably book a place next week, (and check out the suggestions you guys mentioned.) I have no idea what I am gonna say to Jeri yet! lol What is she usually like at these things? I have been told this is gonna be a smaller convention, but I am cool with that.. Toronto is a long way to come from but I live to travel and am always up for an adventure and meeting new people:)

Well, if you're not that familiar with her non-Trek work, do some research and then ask how she prepared for a role that you thought was particularly interesting. Ask how her family is. Ask if she travels much and where has she gone lately? What was her favorite country to visit? If you have a hobby, mention it and ask if she has any hobbies.

Why not stay at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel? It would be very convenient to come and go as you please, since the Con is at this hotel. I am staying there and found a cheaper rate through Expedia, than even the reserved rooms Creation is offering.
