Help with amplifier and LCD TV

Agenda

Hi,

I recently purchased a new amplifier to go along with my LCD TV.

Before, I had an old amp that lacked HDMI compatibility so I ended up plugging the HDMI cable directly to the TV from my cable box. It worked fine at all times.

But now, with this new one, I'm plugging it from the cable box into the amp and THEN into the TV. Sometimes I experience blackouts and sometimes the sound goes on and off.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it common?

1. Why do you have an Amp?
2. How far are you going?

If I understand correctly, you are running an HDMI cable from the cable box into the receiver, and another one from the receiver to the TV?

If so, that may be why you're having problems. Some cable boxes aren't compatible with that. Their copy protection won't let a 'repeater', like a receiver, be anywhere in the HDMI link between the cable box and the TV. If you use HDMI with a box like that, you have to go straight from cable box to TV.

What make and model is your cable box? AFAIK, all Motorola cable boxes suffer from this problem. It's a faulty implementation of HDCP copy protection.
