Help! Slug problem :(

NCC-1701-B

Howdy everyone, I need help. Every night when I go into the kitchen I'm greeted by an army of slugs. I just counted 21. These are probably the only thing I am genuinely scared of, and that's just because they're totally gross. How do I stop them coming into the house? I obviously don't want to harm them, and I can't go anywhere near them. I'm just worried as we have 3 cats and they can carry lungworm which is not good for my kitties.

any ideas? :(

No, thanks, I wasn't planning on sleeping tonight; why do you ask?!

Aren't slugs highly vulnerable to salt? Time to find their point of entry and Carthage that jazz...

I would have recommended salt, too, but that might kill the poor darlings.

I guess if she removes the current slugs and then... yeah, what you said... then, I mean, they're probably smart enough to detect its presence and abort the mission.

No. They will DIE crossing into the territory they wish to claim for the slug race.

They will melt on the threshold and all those that follow will melt on top of them.

Do not go into the kitchen in bare feet at night.

Traditionally they are attracted to beer. I see from the pic they are in your pet bowls. They love wet cat food. I used to live in a damp area with leopard slugs, easily 7 inches long and thick and covered in spots.. well I personally thought they were adorable but 4 or 5 of those mothers in your cat food is a little ick.

Anyway figure out point of entry and put bowls of beer or whatever is currently considered slug bait there. They are heading for bowls in your house so they are attracted to something.

However be prepared to deal with slug beer deaths.

You have a party and the next morning you empty all the 1/4 full bottles and dregs in plastic cups into a receptacle henceforth known as "slug hooch". Flat beer is fine.

Hahaha oh my :) They definitely seem to be attracted to the cat food, it's dry biscuits though. you can hear them crunching on it. eww. I really have no idea where they come in from though. We do have a little bit of a damp problem in the kitchen due to leaky plumbing in the bathroom above. but that corner is behind all the cupboards so there's not really any getting to it. I don't want to kill them also cause I can't even go near a live one without gagging...

That's pretty wild that you can hear them crunching the cat food. I didn't know they could even do that. Freaky little things.

I admit I kinda like slugs, but I wouldn't want them sliming around inside my home, either.

That is an...interesting pest problem you got there.

Fun fact: slugs and snails don't have traditional mouthparts, nor mandible mouthparts, but a toothed, chitinous, ribbon-like structure called a radula.

It is crazy that you hear them as they use this.

I guess picking them up in a paper towel and throwing them outside is out of the question.

I've always loved them. We had a magnolia tree in the backyard of my first house and I used to love looking in the magnolias for slugs, they seemed to enjoy hanging out in the flowers. I found a massive one once and named it Mighty Mike, King of the Slugs. I would have been about 5.
