Help needed with my new LED LCD TV

Heya guys, I bought myself a 42" LG LED TV during the Boxing Day sales last year, and due to being away most of the time I haven't had the chance to use it much yet. I have noticed though that using 16:9 or 4:3 DVDs there is a line about one centimetre wide at the top of the screen, only when there is something bright at that section of the screen, not when there is black on that area of the screen, and also not when watching a 2.40:1 DVD. I hook my DVD player up through the component jacks, while I use the standard red, yellow and white RCA connectors as the cable. Could it just be static from these relatively unshielded cables? I never had a problem with static before, I used S-Video to hook my old CRT TV up to my DVD player, though. I have tried hooking another set of cheap RCA cables up instead, the same thing happens Unfortunately my DVD player doesn't have HDMI output - it's a surround sound system that I bought in 2004 - otherwise I would buy one of those cables and hook it up using that. Also, every few hours the TV screen turns black for about a second, although I think that has more to do with the electrical circuits in my house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, it's highly annoying having a tv that is less than two weeks old playing up. I don't really want to pay $25 for a set of shielded component cables, but if that's the solution I guess I don't really have a choice.

My thought would be to borrow a friends DVD player or if you have a PS2 or PS3 hook that up and try playing a DVD on that game machine.

I would not use the red/yellow/white cables. Those are not designed for component video. They are intended to be used for low-bandwidth, old style connections - yellow=analog video, white=left channel analog audio, red=right channel analog audio.

If you want HD video, get cables that are made for it - the Y/Cb/Cr, green/blue/red connectors. They don't have to be *expensive* component cables, but they should be ones that are made for this purpose. And for audio, use cable designed for digital audio, if your gear supports it.

Okay, I'll give my PS2 a try, and also my olds' DVD player, and see if either of those have the same problem. If they do, I guess I'll just have to buy myself new component video cables. Oh, and my audio runs through the amp integrated with my DVD player, so there's not much I can do with that, but that's already 5.1 anyway!
