Help needed. What colour sock did TOS crew wear?

Ken Dodd

Cadet
Newbie
Guys, I am cosplaying as an original series crew member (a red shirt:angel:) and have the whole outfit but need to know what colour sock the crew wore in TOS.

Pink, with purple stripes and yellow polka dots. Official Starfleet issue.

Kirk, when he is pulling on his boots in Wink of an Eye, might show some socks briefly.

Edit : Nope. Kirk already has his boots pulled up. He just adjusts them slightly. No socks visible.

In Charlie X it looks like they wear black socks with their red exercise tights.

In "Corbomite," Kirk is wearing what looks like black socks with some sort of blue slippers during his physical, and when he walks back to his quarters carrying his boots and shirt.

LOL I guess I admire your incredible attention to detail. But honestly I don't think we ever saw their socks. If anything, they were probably just plain old black socks.

You will need go-go boots, haha. When I cosplayed Kirk I didn't go all out. I just wore black slacks and nice-ish black shoes.

I would assume they wore black socks, as you wouldn't want a color that would draw attention if it accidentally became visible.

I don't know from color, but I'm certain that they were velour the first two seasons and double-knit polyester in the third.

On TAS, they used sock-shields because they were cheaper to draw.

Black as were all approved military socks at the time

Well, I was in the US Army about ten years after TOS went off and while we wore black socks with the Class A/Dress uniforms, we had olive-drab green socks that were worn with fatigues.

Ahh but it was 1966... Black wool socks were all that were issued at the time..as always, later, uniforms change..heck the boots today are suede brown or green now..unlike the black boots when I was in, (1980s early 90s)

Even in "The Cage" when the Talosians were shutting off the power on the Enterprise, and we saw a clear shot of a guy's pant leg riding up, we didn't see a sock (just flesh). I'd go with high black to keep the color the same in case your cuff and boot have gap when you sit.
