Help name my new fanfic series.

That's NOT a good idea!

There allready is a Star Trek: Gatekeeper, and they have been in pre-production for two years. They have several Star Trek actors AND a Star Wars actor on the team, and have teams working on it in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, USA, Spain and Italy. You don't want a conflict with their lawyer! ;)

You could call it Paris Station. The use of Paris crops up in ST a lot. Its the Fed capital, the name of two characters and the place where Picard blew it with Michelle Phillips(FOOL!). :brickwall:

Or, with a tongue in cheek approach, you could call it Babylon5:The Ripoff! :guffaw:

PS!

However! The Gatekeeper producers - or 4Fathers as they call themselves - are also involved with other well known US fan shows, and are known for their will to cooperate. I'm sure they would agree for you to write fiction based on their movies. Take a look at the story (on their webpage). It's really exciting.

"Star Trek: Athens"

2379 And Beyond

Unity.JPG

Following up on "Star Trek: Unity" but going in a slightly different direction, by proposing an alternate universe. One that combines the canon Dominion War with the illusiory timeline from TNG's "Future Imperfect" episode where the Bajorans have over-run the Cardassians & become a 'renegade state'.

The Federation & Klingon Alliance has gained certain advantages with the Voyager's return such as Seven of Nine's Borg technology leading to the Galaxy X-Class (Entente-Class) & the "warship" Intrepid-Class variant (originally created in the Voyager "Living Witness" episode.)

"Athens Station" is the second starbase constructed of its kind. The first was built in the "Triangle" between the Federation, Klingon Empire & Romulan Star Empire. The starbases were constructed immediately following the events of "Star Trek: Nemesis" & Spock's assasination on Romulus during a Peace Rally.

"Athens Station" was built to help alleviate issues between Humans & non-Humans within the Federation & to diplomatically address ways to prevent the Federation's neighbors from taking premature measures to genuinely protect themselves from the Federation's internal problems, should things get out of hand.

Internal problems stimulated by increasing support for (allegedly persecuted) followers of (pre-Federation Terrorists) calling themselves "Terra Prime" residing in the outer worlds, causing some Federation planets to possibly secede from the Federation.

Athens Station was built to resolve perceived persecution of Terra Prime's supporters in addition to reconciling with the grieving next of kin of Maquis rebels annihilated by the Dominion. Both of whom were threatening to instigate a Civil War unless their grievances were heard.

In the meantime, Athens also keeps a wary eye on The Borg gingerly still recovering from the collapse of a handful of Transwarp Conduits. Also, watches out for encroachment upon the Alpha & Beta Quadrants by a rare sect of Jem Hadar that have thrown off Ketracel White addiction, along with the formerly rock-solid control the Founders / Vorta once had over them.

Considering that this is not an official production, nor do they have any rights to trademarking "Star Trek Whatever", if lonewriter wants to name his fanfic "Gatekeeper" then he should go ahead and do so. For example, how many "Star Trek Endeavour" fics are there? Just because you name your fic "Whatever" and someone else uses the same name, there is no legal basis for a lawsuit of any sort, because ultimately only Paramount owns rights to Star Trek.

I think Fleet Cpt Frost hit it ! Just name your series Star Trek: Whatever so you can get to the actually writing!

Hi! :-)

Unless Paramount have agreed to sell the DVD like they did the Finish production "Star Wreck".

In this case the debate isn't very interesting. Nicking someone's name because one can and are too lazy to come up with one yourself is not very impressive for anyone within the Trekkies community and a real bad start four his/your production, and why would one even concider using a name that is taken by a large production??? It's just not the Trekkie way pissing people off when you don't have to. ;) Don't you agree! :)

The discussion is almost pointless. I called my fanfic series "Starship Dauntless" because it was relevant to the episode that spawned the idea, ie - Hope and Fear, with the fake Starfleet ship Dauntless NX-01-A. Other people have called their fanfic series "Dauntless" and "Star Trek: Dauntless."

Who cares as long as people enjoy reading it, right?

I would most certainly care if I were to write a Star Trek novel, and people conected my campaign with a completely different project.

Now, if this is a simple fan fiction novel on the web, it doesn't really matter, but if it's a larger project with a campaign connected to it - NATURALLY we would care if it were to confuse the market with the same name.

We have put an enourmous amount of time and money into this, there is a large number of people, and professional actors involved from Star Trek and Star Wars. It has a long production time, and we wouldn't want people to feel the name is old before we even get to put the finished product out there. You know what I mean? :)

We changed our name from Star Trek: Nexus because a small web page used that name. I'm sure it wouldn't matter - but he had created that page with the best of intentions, and for our enjoyment. We would never disrespect his work by using his name. It doesn't matter if it's a commercial product or not, or if Star Trek is a Paramount brand. it's not what you CAN get away with or not - it's what you should and shouldn't do. It's about respect, and creating something that is yours. :)

But this is all our opinion, and you may disagree with me.
I do hope though, that you decide to chose another name, and that we all give each other some space to create something of our own! I know there are several projects out there with the same name, but that is most certainly nothing to aim for. If one can write an entire novel, I'm sure one is creative enought to find an original name for it! ;)

But maybe someone can tell me what kind of level this project is aiming for???
