Help Me Learn To Like Coffee

The problem with coffee I found is that when I started using it to give me that extra boost for work I started to depend on it more and drink more. Now one cup a day isn't enough anymore. So in the long run it's not going ot be healthy. Same for Red Bulls which will make you crash later.
Well, yeah. While coffee itself isn't bad for you, caffeine definitely can be. It's an addictive substance. You might not crave it like some other drugs, but you will definitely feel symptoms of withdrawal if you go without it. When I was younger and drank a lot of pop, I would get pounding headaches if I went without caffeine for more than half a day.

Yeah, same here. If I don't have my coffee, I get headaches. At first, I thought about avoiding it, but then... fuck, if I really have an addiction, at least it is a tasty one!

You could start out with half a cup or less of coffee and then fill the rest of the cup with creamer or milk and gradually increase the coffee content.

I started this way, and for a long time would add a lot of creamer to my coffee. Then, about 10 years ago, I stopped adding the creamer entirely. Haven't gone back.

I just wish that coffee tasted half as good as it smells before you brew it.

It's one of the main reasons I avoid it these days. I will indulge every once in a while, but I don't make a habit of it.

That said, I had a French Vanilla Cappuccino from the gas station yesterday. I had a long drive, and it was cold (nay, SNOWING! in fucking October), so I decided that it was a good idea.

Gas stations have some damn good coffee.

I'm decidedly more confused now than I was when I started this thread.

Summary:

If you just need an energy boost, coffee is probably not the way to go. There are better ways to do that.

If you really want to drink coffee, start with something that doesn't taste much like coffee (either a flavored coffee drink or coffee with a lot of extra milk and sugar). Over time, you will probably find that you want the drinks to taste more like coffee, and you will therefore need less extra stuff.

Also, Jagerbombs are always a viable option. Yesterday I went back to my old apartment, and my best friend helped me finish cleaning up. We went out to lunch, and the food made us sleepy. We decided that we could either a) do a Jagerbomb to wake ourselves up or b) take a power nap.

We ended up doing neither because Jagerbombs are expensive and we were afraid a power nap would just turn into sleep...but Jagerbombs were in fact our first idea (we had the idea independently of one another, which is why we are best friends).

Vitamin B is good for energy. However, fair warning, it will turn your pee neon yellow.

Haha, I know! I was reading through it and it's like okay, drink this type of coffee, don't drink coffee, drink tea, take a caffeine pill, caffeine is bad for you, drink flavored milk, don't drink flavored milk, put lots of creamer in the coffee, get more sleep, etc.

I think I may just stick to water as my beverage of choice, and deal with being tired.

There is an ayurvedic product called Amrit Kalash that's very good. I noticed that when I'd taken it and then only got 4 or 5 hours of sleep I was able to do ok-also helps your mood. But it's really expensive.

Another is a green food supplement called Pure Synergy. It's also got all kinds of herbs, medicinal mushrooms, some dried fruits and veggies, sea veggies, I think. This one increases energy as well.

Tried and true.
I haven't read through the entire thread, but a nutritional approach would be much healthier for you in the long run.

If you're looking for a non-food/beverage way to give yourself an energy boost, do some quick exercise. Run a couple laps around the house. Do some jumping jacks. Get your heart pumping. You'll get a nice push of a adrenaline, and it will keep you going for a while.

That's why you should only heed my advice from now on. I'll be wrong about 90% of the time, but at least you'll have the benefit of being consistently wrong.:bolian:

P.S. I'm not wrong about coffee though. That stuff is just vile.

I really can't stand the stuff, but I want to start drinking it. Caffeine purposes, mostly. I tried once back in college but I couldn't cut it. I've had friends tell me that I just need to try the right coffee, but I have no idea what that is.

I bought something from Dunkin Donuts today and it tasted as vile as every other coffee I've had. It's now approximately 50% sugar by volume and I can barely tolerate it. I know it's an acquired taste, but I was wondering if there's anything specific I should be trying.

Any suggestions of where I should try coffee from, what types, etc would help. We have a coffee machine thing at home that I got for my husband but it uses those pods so I'm not sure what choices are available there.

I'm also a bit wary that I might not be able to tolerate something with an insanely high amount of caffeine, as I've sometimes gotten ill after drinking coffee out (especially from Borders).

Three creams, three sugars.
