help finding episode

im a total newbie to this site but have been watching star trek daily for the past year or so thanks to my kirk obsessed gf.
needing help finding the episode featuring a glowing yellow energy field type thing inhabiting a plannet that the landing crew is drawn to.
any help would be much apreciated, google is not much help nor is reading episode lists as only a brief synopsis is given.
i believe it is in season 1 and possibly is featured on the dvd case for season 1.

Is it possible you are thinking of "Metamorphosis"?

It depicts an energy field that is actually a lifeform, sometimes fluttering yellow. The only aspect that jars with your description is that this story was aired during the second season.

And Zefram Cochrane, from that episode, returns in the motion picture "First Contact", with a cameo in the first episode of "Enterprise", "Broken Bow". A Mirror Universe version features in a cameo in "In a Mirror, Darkly", Part I.
