Helen Noel 42nd Anniversary (+ 1 week) Thread!

I found this out while looking up something else yesterday, from Memory Alpha's article on Grace Lee Whitney:

"...Replaced by Dr. Helen Noel in "Dagger of the Mind", Whitney was ultimately fired, appearing only in the background of her final episode, "The Conscience of the King"..."

You know, I love her legs so much in this shot that I never actually noticed the pokies. And I'm a breast man!

Rand would have been awesome in that role! The line about the Christmas party would have been even more interesting. Plus Grace had even better boobs (I told you I'm a breast man).

Grace had better breasts, but her goofy beehive always detracted from her overall looks.

One of TOS's big casting failings is that Noel was never used on the show again. I guess they wanted rotating "interests of the week" for Kirk and having the same secondary character show up repeatedly without having much purpose would stray from the TV template of the time.

I always get a little pissed off that they deliberately leave out WHY she (Grace Lee Whitney) was having issues at the time. She was being literally forced into sexual service while working on Star Trek, as most of the women on the show were... and she couldn't handle it. When she finally went to complain to NBC, she was fired.

*hackles, rising!*

And people complain there's too much sex in the new trailer.

I do. There was a time when Star Trek meant something I could watch with the family. Now it isn't. What's in the film had no bearing on the backstage crap at Desilu Studios, though.

What are you talking about? I know that Grace did some prostitution after she left the show. What are you referring to when you said the women were being forced into sexual service?

The women of Star Trek either put out on the casting couch or they didn't get or keep their jobs. It was a huge scandal, and one of the big reasons (if not the biggest) reason that NBC wanted to close it down. (Numerous sources on this one, even Majel's book alludes to this.)

But.. not exactly themely for the thread, and I'm sorry about that.

Not me. No more or less than we got in the debut episode of ENTERPRISE seven years ago, when a lot of people went totally apeshit about Trip and T'Pol lathering each other up in the ship's decon chamber and it turned out the two wouldn't have intimate relations for at least two years after that.

I'm amazed no one's made a dirty "dagger" and "mind" joke yet.

If no-one has any objections, I'll fall on that grenade.

I'D LIKE TO PUT MY... "DAGGER" IN HER... "MIND". :shifty:

 The best part is I'm not even sorry!

May I also submit the lovely Miss Hill's appearance in a Mission: Impossible episode?

Shaken...not stirred.
