Held captive as a sex slave...

There was a 200 mile seperation. Briefly putting aside the death penalty, there's the idea of "one strike and you out" for very clear cut cases. Most police will tell you that there's no recuperating a child rapist.

This is just so awful. She had the first child at 14, didn't she? Just horrid.

The bastard has a manifesto...turned into the FBI in S.F.

According to some sources, he used religious language.mis-quoted from the Bible, to justify his actions to himself and the girl involved..

It will take a long time for all 3 girls to recover from this in ANY way..

He should be killed. Actually he should be tortured and killed. Anything less is a mockery of justice. There is more than enough evidence to prove his guilt. As for the killing people because of a DUI then I say, such a person should also be killed if there actions lead to the death of another human being or even if someone is paraylized by their actions. People should be judged on their actions and death is justfied in many crimes, asuming the evidence of the presumed guilty, is rock solid.

Castrate the muthafuckas. If they are the handsy type...than chop those "appendages" off too. How bout brandin' these bastids...big ole P stamped on their god damn head. I could go on...

One argument against capital punishment for non-murder cases is this - if rape was punishable by death, then rapists would have absolutely no incentive to spare the life of their victims. If they would already face the death penalty for the first crime, then they have no reason not to kill them too and silence the witness.

Still horrific. I would definitely support life in prison.

Three people held captive in a backyard compound for eighteen years by a lifetime parolee-- way to do your job parole board.

Yeah, that's the part that gets to me. If they guy was on probation shouldn't his property have been searched now and then?
I've seen reports that the home and even the back yard adjacent to the house had been visited by authorities. The back yard had a combination of barriers that camouflaged the more distant section. An outdoor version of a cabinet with a false back panel in it.

Neighbors who had heard the girls had been told they were visiting relatives.

The man's wife knew what was going on. Lets hope she also spends many years in prison as well.

28 felony counts each..probable life in prison..

they deserve it..and here's the real deal..high profile pedophiles usually die rather quickly in prison..even murders have standards I guess..

Wow...Still that house...I'm just flabbergasted at how many cracks this slipped through.

Interesting. I had no idea it was possible to fool the system in this manor. I figured that someone somewhere somehow had to have been aware of the extra sq footage and searched it. I mean the guy was a convicted felon on parole...

If nothing else there needs to be a serious policy review, department shakedown and procedural upgrades.

Holy crap.

That house is 4 miles away from mine. An 8 minute drive.

What is worse for me is that around 15 years ago I was working at the old Big O Tires shop in Pittsburg, just off Railroad Ave. (the town next to Antioch), and I can remember this guy. He often came into the shop, I actually helped him and worked on his car. I remember him because the other employees and I would joke about him because he was such a nut job. That and those three moles on his nose were pretty distinguishing. He would try to talk about his views on God to anyone who would listen even then.

According to the step-father's eyewitness account of the kidnapping, it was the wife who grabbed the girl while her husband was driving. She was more than an accomplice. She was a willing participant.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm tempted to search my store's database to see if he's ever been in.

This article has a lot more info:

Apparently neighbors knew that there were other people living there, but assumed they were family members, and that the police must be keeping tabs on him. Also:

The twisted kidnapping case took another disturbing turn Friday as authorities searched the Garrido home in Antioch for evidence in the murders of several prostitutes. Several of the murdered women's bodies were dumped near an industrial park where Garrido, 58, worked in the 1990s, according to Contra Costa Sheriff's Capt. Daniel Terry said.

I'm sorry to say this, but in today's world what else is new? This sort of thing is happening all the time across this globe. :sigh:

There's less of it today then there used to be. We just get to hear about every sickening story thanks to the 24 hour news service.

Cruel and unsual punishment is forbidden under the US Constitution.

Though, they used to hang horse thieves.

MANRAPE and murder by convicts who should not be allowed to murder anyone.
