Heir To The Empire - D+ movie?

Well sort of.

They can't tell writers what they can do, but they can tell them when they're doing something contradicts something else, and they're consultants on the canon. The story group, or at least Pablo tries to explain things that might not be clear in the side materials, like the Visual Dictionaries for the movies.

Some writers listen more than others. Like from what I hear, the Rogue One, Solo and TLJ writers embraced the Story group more than JJ Abrams did. The novel and comic writers as well.

Apparently Abrams definitely doesn't like to be told what to do to the point that SW animated writers were not telling him things specifically so he wouldn't go out of his way to contradict it.

Abrams reminds me a bit of fans in that he has his point of view, and few will change it.

But, I've also heard similar things about Lucas. Lucas, by reports, is someone who can recognize a good idea, but couldn't be told what to do. And this especially shows in the prequel trilogy, where he was basically solo in his ideas, and less limits to curb the excesses.

I think we could get something like HTTE but with a different spin. I would be astonished if we don't see Thrawn running the Empire at some point in the near future. I really hope he and the Empire are written better than the lousy showing Moff Gideon put up at the end of Mandalorian. Boo.

In hindsight, I don't think Heir to the Empire or its sequels are that great. But at the time it seemed fantastic just by virtue of being some of the first new Star Wars in years.

Anyway, if they were going to do some adaptation of the story to fit into new canon, then they would need to address how Thrawn made it back after disappearing into unknown regions in Rebels. ...Unless of course that has already been addressed in new novels or comics. I haven't been keeping up on any of them. Maybe it could be tied in with Sabine and Ahsoka finding Ezra.

The general theory right now is that the live action Ahsoka show is going to deal with what happened to Thrawn and Ezra after the end of Rebels.
The more I think about it, the more I'd rather just see Thrawn dealt in the Ahsoka show, with Sabine, Ahsoka, and possibly Ezra stopping him once and for all. After all the time they dealt with him in Rebels, I would find it a lot more satisfying if they defeated him, rather than the Original Trilogy characters in a Heir to the Empire movie.
